(disrespectful) REFUGEES GO AWAY, or at least out of my city

havoc

Shaolin Ninja
I've worked (volunteered) the Astrodome, Reliant and the George R. Brown refugee relief off and on since Saturday. I have never come across so many ungrateful people in my life, or should I say "people who are just looking for handouts", constantly complaining and having the attitude of "the world owes me something". Yes, some are grateful, some want to work, some want to re-build their lives, but many are living better than they did in N.O., and a major majority of them live off the govt. in some form. I have no tolerance for lazy/slothful people and just walked away from it yesterday. 300 of them were given free housing (apartments) in the southwest area of Houston, what do they do (?), go and loot a local grocery store, this is my city (born and raised), respect it or get out, these phuckers could actually change the economy here in Houston, the same economy that is pretty stagnant/reliable that has enabled my hard working ass to retire in two years at the tender age of 31. I may organize a "get the phuck out of my city" campaign very soon for these parasites. Every day I see the same people doing the same thing, laying around, waiting for the next meal, not looking for any employment, do all of these imports fall under this description, no, but "most" do without a doubt. The media does not show what I have described but I have been a part of it for the last days and find myself completely blown away by the ignorance and disrespect. For those trying to get back on their feet in all ways possible I respect you in the utmost fashion and wish I could help you even more, for the ones I have described above I wish it was legal to crack your skull with a iron bat and give you each free tracheotomies.

Summary: Respectful, grateful, wanting to rebuild = stay.......opposite of that = leave, don't EVER come back

havoc,

you had to know that out of the thousands that came to Houston, there were going to be more than a few who were going to have "attitude". Out of any group, you are going to have those who are going to take until there is no more to take, then they get pissed that there is nothing left to take, so they bitch.

However, I salute you in your efforts for volunteering, and giving up your time to help those in need. You have made a difference in someones life, just by being there.

Like Freeballin, I salute your efforts. But that's every where in every city. I doubt everyone in Houston is as upstanding and hard working as you. Does Houston or any other city need more lowlifes? No.

There will always be weak people (they come in all forms & shapes). Someone has to be the Alpha or Omega of society (or the Beta, Gamma, Lambda). How you choose to live your life is what matters the most.

I'm in NY and and NY Times article says they're staying in huge numbers. Same with BR. BR is going to get a lot, um, blacker. Gotta ask yourself...Why would they leave? What do they have to go back to? This is not going to be so good for Houston.

Sorry man. You've got some flexibility, you could leave, right? Houston is not exactly Paradise either. NYC, South FL, SF or LA might suit you better, no? Start the next phase of your life kind of thing. Maybe this is a sign for ya.

Just a thought. Hope all is well, always nice to see you 'round here.

Allowing people to be weak is the problem, altruism has no role in government. Quick end to my Rand-ian rant.

Looking for employment ? how do you look for employment while smelling and looking like shiat.

Lazy and with an attitude, laying around doing the same thing ? But you have your own bed to go to at night...and what are they suppose to do with no money nor clothes.....go to Dave and Busters or maybe to a Museum ?

Maybe you should have stayed home. Obviously, your heart is not in the right place.

I didn't imply that it is okay to allow people to be weak. There will always be people that fall to addiction, people that choose to not better their lives, women who continue to love men more than they love themselves, people that choose not to listen and learn, etc., etc.
