I finished installing my dish last Tues. it's now sun. and can't find the mofo signal!
I'm in Toronto Canada, using 220 deg. azimuth and 32 deg. elevation.
the only thing I'm kinda questioning is that I've got a huge tree to the right of the dish ( not in the way) and a smaller one below the dish (about 10 f. away), I'm not sure if the smaller tree is affecting the signal. its not in the path, but it is somewhat questionable. the dish is about 10 f. up mounted to the side of my house. is the mounting process also important? balancing the arm, does it have to be exactly square?
anyway, if anybody can help me out before I take a hammer to it, I would be appreciative.

Well my dad this a couple of years ago. We could get the signal up to 92%. He just kind of fooled around moving it and i would holler and tell him to stop or start.

didnt you get free install? no? you shouldve.

p.s. when you get it going, let me know, i got the h-card ill sell you.

Digso: get a signal finder. IT only takes a few min to find signal with one of them and you can do it right from your dish and dont have to mess with rec. You can get them for bout $20

Superstar: They do not offer free install in canada cause they do not offer Directv in canada.

Trees could be a problem, have someone yell up to you when the dish aiming
tone is contant, or turn up your tv volume real loud so you can hear it.

Forget about squareness, and azmuth stuff, just start moving it around in the general direction that you see any nieghbors pointed at, and listen for setup tone. If no tone then try away from trees.

well ........ we figured it out! i cut the coax cable clean, meaning i didn't fold back the ground wires ......... so i guess in theory, it was shorting itself out.
but today, i got zapped ......... all gone, now i have to reprogram!
damn, i hope this doesn't happen to often.

THEY ARE SHOOTING A LOT OF BULLETS THESE DAYS. IN THE FUTURE THE ARE GOING TO SHOOT A BULLET THAT FRIES YOUR CARD COMPLETELY. SO YOU MIGHT NOT WANT IT IN YOUR RECIEVER WHEN IT COMES DOWN.

ANYWAY, WHAT TYPE OF RECIEVER DO YOU HAVE. I HAVE RCA'S AND IT IS VERY HARD TO CATCH THE SIGNAL. A FRIEND HOOKED HIS SONY UP TO MINE AND IT CAUGHT IT VERY QUICK.

JUST MY .02

I've got the RCA as well. its hitting about 85%. not bad.
I'm probably gonna invest in the programmer myself. too inconvenient to call someone up and do it.
