i stole this from the bench thread and was jus curious what you guys are adding when doing dips, i always hit the bench first and move to dips i start out with a 70lb dumbell for 10 and then a 85lb for 10 and usually on my 3rd set i can almost get 10.....my gym doesnt have a weighted dip machine or a belt to hang weights on so its kinda a pain to hold a dumbell between my legs :p

You hold 85lb dumb bells between your legs? You are clearly more man than I will ever be. I just use a belt with a rope.

I just use a belt with a chain and a clip also. I'm going to start this Tuesday doing 4x5 with 90 lbs.

if they had a belt with a rope or chain ofcourse id be using it but untill then thats what i got to work with, its not really that bad i bend my knees and it jus stays hooked on my legs.

haha going to elitefts.com and making an investment that'll last you a lifetime would bypass all your difficulties...

ok jus got back from home depot and I guess ill be keeping a chain and clips in my bag. man was I looking like a moron in the gym? anyways maybe ill be able to move up in weight now

I can do 4, 45 lb plates for about 5 reps on the dipping bars. I usually use three plates and do about 8 reps for the tris.

The hardest part is not dipping with the weight, it is balancing with it once you are on the handles. As I lower I tend to "wobble" alot and really have to concentrate on not falling forward with 180 lbs around my waist.

Dipping with high weight will do wonders for your arm and chest strength.

i dont think we look like morons at all (i hold a dumbell between my legs too)
i look at it like this... you dont hang a bar off your back to do squats, right? i dont use straps for any movement if not nececcary. as long as the weight is "holdable" i dont see any reason to strap it on.

The issue isn't looking like a moron or hindering development like, say, using a belt on squats would for core strength, (unless you're trying to improve your leg grip, whatever the hell that would be). Just do what's comfortable and allows you to use the weight you want to use.

go to ironmind and get their dipping/chinning belt - it's fantastic, no clips or chains to break (trust me the cheap belts you'll buy in stores will break) and it'll never cut you or give you friction burns on your thighs.

Holy crap!! Holding 85 lbs with your legs while being suspended seems crazy. What is getting the work out? Your tri's or your legs?

my legs arnt doing any work the weight jus simply hangs there jus like if you had a belt on your not working out your waist, what's getting worked are my shoulders, tris and chest but like I said I jus invested in some chain and will look into that other belt mentioned so I can move up in weight, props to the dude above doing sets with 4 plates that's good weight
