Anyone ever heard of or ever utilized this type of training before??
My boyfriend got the book by Brooks Kubik and has been incorporating this training style and he is very excited about it.

I like it. I think what I liked best was that it inspired me to try new things, lifts I hadnt tried, new ways of thinking about training- building strength as opposed to building looks.

I kind of think of it the way I think of Kerouac.
Because of Kerouac I started reading Eastern Philosophy&Religion, thus increasing my overall knowledge.

Because of Dinosaur Training I started reading other sources of strength training info, thus increasing my overall stregth.

I remember asking B fold about this book, however, and he had some problems with it. Mainly about the viability of the routines, if I remember correctly. I cant recall the specifics though.

what is this type of training all about? i've heard it on the boards before...but not explained...

I just feel that he goes way overboard with his methods. He takes an all or nothing approach to doing the Dino Training.

Example: He promotes the use of thick bars over regular bars because they will develop a different kind of strength. He is right...it will develop a different kind of strength but that strength is not going to be the kind that makes you huge or incredibly strong at the gym lifts or at strongman. It is probably going to help you a lot with your grip though...

Sandbag carrying is cool too. I really can not see how it is going to make anyone really big or really strong either. He uses the example so many times that being able to clean and press a 150 pound bag of sand would mean that you were a VERY strong person. He is right...but you don't get strong at 'sandbag clean and press' by just doing that exercise.

You still get strong from doing gym lifts...this is something that I think that he forgets in the book...

On the other hand...Dino Training is FUN also. That book also has some of the best quotes that I have EVER read. It IS worth the read...

I understand where your coming from B.

But then, someone could just take ideas from the training in the book and use them as additional methods to their training. Correct?

I fully agree. That was my point (sometimes I'm not good at clearly stating my full point).

He just took everything to the extreme...
