Dont beat around the bush or anything!

I am interested to know as well.

I never had the guts to ask on "ask dave" and i couldnt find any info on the man (except the 1010lb squat and the dimel deadlifts)

I hope its not weight related......i know i wont get over 300 pounds......but still gaining weight scares me sometimes when you hear about deaths related to it.

not much help

I read it a few years ago in a PLUSA article. There was one in about 97(I think) about dropping weight if you are a super. So I do think it was weight or heart related, but I may be confusing him with another lifter.

I could get over 300 fairly easily, but I don't know if I have that level of comitment or financial resources. I can hit 250 fairly easy, but then my body backs off and won't let me maintain at that level real easy.

comon guys i know some of you know........

bump for more answers

thanks

How would you feedl if I asked about how one of your friends died? Matt's death had nothing to do with his weight. Now, let Matt rest in peace.

MATT DIMEL DIES

It took about a half an hour's search through 12 years worth of P/L USA's to find the right edition (JUN/94) and headline I was looking for. There is a picture of Matt sitting in a chair with a big grin with the following printed under it:

"Matt Dimel at the scene of his, and perhaps the entire sports' greatest comeback ever, the 1992 APF Senior Nationals. Matt died suddenly on April 9th when he went out late to run some errands and suffered "something variously described as a stroke, a seizure, or perhaps an aneurysm". His friend Mike McCormick of Powerlifting Equipment in New York informed us of the tragedy and asked to have his message to Matt published (above, right). Matt passed only weeks after writing a moving tribute to his friend Jeff Wright, after Jeff himself passed away, too young and unexpectedly. Matt was only 33 years of age. According to his obituary notice, he is survived by special love Barbar Swinning; daughter, Harley Swinning-Dimel; parents John and Joann Dimel; sisters, Leslie Route, Jessica Riegel and husband Jeff; bothers, John Casbarro and wife Kim, Dana Dimel and wife Kim, nieces and nephews, Lisa Urdak, Paul Vollmer, Maria, Vaughn and Phoebe Casbarro, Amber and John Riegel, Brian Route; great nephew, Augustus Casbarro; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends." This edition of POWERLIFTING USA is dedicated to Matt.

Here is the message from Mike McCormick:

Dear Matt,
As I told you before, men of their word are few and far between. Now the world has one less person to count on. I can only believe that the Good Lord, in His Infinite Wisdom and Compassion has an even better plan for you in His Divine Kingdom. God be with you my friend,
Michael McCormick

I apologize if I mispelled anyones name....the text was taken directly from the magazine.

to flapwrltr ......aka bob

i didnt mean any dissrespect......i dont know if you meant that to me or endpoint.

i have just found myself truly summerged (or at least as much as possible in alabama) in the westside lifestyle.

i have seen matt on a couple of my videos and was just curious to see how a legend fell.

Via con DIOS......... sorry for the offense if there was any

I was an acquaintance of Matt...I know exactly what happened...It is not something that should be shared over the net...However, his death had absolutely nothing to do with his weight...Let's just say "if you live hard you die hard" and leave it at that...

thats understandable

i was just curious...... i wasnt concerned with weight....... i just hate that i got into westside too late to have seen or read about him........ it makes me sad to see a legend gone.

GOD bless him his family and legions of friends.

I have heard this quote, and it is the exact quote I want my friends to use for me if I pass. In fact, I may have heard this directly from Dave Tate.

"Matt Dimel died big and strong!"

I am sure you guys can use your imagination and come up with a list of plausible explanations. Let me stick a couple out there for you.

1. it is not healthy to take tons of shit and weigh well over 300lbs for an extended period of time. those looking to reassure themselves that they are going to live forever weighing twice what an average man does and using an ungodly amount of goodies should give it up.

2. many of the greatest athletes in the world, especially those involved in the narccistic sports of powerlifting and bodybuilding do EVERYTHING to excess. again, if you are looking for assurances that what you are doing is healthy, it probably isnt.

I don't mean to come off as a total smart-ass. I spend a lot of time wondering if the sacrifices i make in the name of training are worth it. I have spent time scouring the web for reassurances that reckless abuse of anabolics and other substances wont damage my life.

It is a constant battle to decide whether to stay in the game at a competitive level or not.

I only recommend that you don't kid yourselves.

but you know what ..it boils down to eacth person and what they want to do.right wrong or indiffernt.and if this is an attack on flapwrlftr then let me stick this out there..back off!!!!!..i see no need putting down a situation you no SHIT about.some compete at the highest level and are juiced to the hilt, some compete at that same level and are drug free, yes they are a minority, but they are out there.as afr as dimmel.........let it go.better yet,GET A LIFE........

SpeedDemon...

This was an old thread that did not to be revisited. I was not part of the original thread but I don't agree with you commenting on the thread so far after the fact. No need for bad blood.

speedDemon,

who the hell was the comment directed at anyhow?

i hope it wasnt me. i know the real story. you should just let this thread die.
