one that you can set up in your room that takes pics so the slob you bring home wont have any idea that its even there.

then post the pics here.

How clear do you want the pictures? 3 mega pixels is pretty good for regular sized photos, but if you want 8x11's then you might want to look at 5, 6, and 7 mega pixels.

I feel the thre main components to look for in a digi-camera are:
mega-pixels, storage and display screen
Also make sure it comes with previously taken pics of all the hot EF babes
:Perk:

thats my plan , but seriously what kind should i get , like i dont about megapixels and shit

I'm a fan of fuji myself. Also, how much are you looking to spend?

The amount of space will be determined by the card you get. A 256mb card will hold about 102 pics. But how many pics do you really take before you d/l them onto a computer or cd?

im not lookin to spend alot , and as far as storage like u said i dont need to store a shitload of pics on a camera, i basically want something that will take good pics

You can get a 5mp for about $350 with red eye reducer, and all the frills. Radio shack has a 3 megapixel camera for $99 after $50 MIR.

Fujifilm A303. Bought it for $250 back in 2003. I think it was the one Radio Shack had for $99 after the MIR. For the avg guy who just wants regular sized pics the 3mp is fine.

this needs to be reiterated

I think a good digital camera needs to have excellent zooming capabilities. Optical and digital zoom that is. That is one of the important criteria I go for, equally important is size and look.

I will sell you my Sony Cybershot T1. I bought it a few months ago and Sony released the T7 and I want it bad.

The megapixel race is over man, don't fall for that.

4Megapixels are MORE THAN ENOUGH for the regular user needs. Look for the following:

1. Quality of lens: In this case, stick ONLY to cameras made by recognized analog camera makers: Canon, Olympus, Nikon, etc... Ditch ANYTHING made by computer-makers (Panasonic, casio, etc). There are enough cheap plastic lenses in the world already. You want an ALL GLAS SPHERICAL lens

2. Size: How does it feel in your hand? do you see carrying it everywhere

3. Zoom: it comes in handy, ask for at least a 3X OPTICAL (not digital, that is bullshit)

4. Battery life: Does it have a propietary (read expensive) battery, or can you hook up the ocassional emergency AAs

5. Quality of pics: Too many cameras doubling as MP3 players, video recorders, dictaphones, etc... if they are throwing all those freebis chances are the pircutre quality is lacking. TEST DRIVE IT before you buy

^ Excellent advice!

The average user doesn't need anymore then 4 megapixels imo. You see all these fancy ass cameras with 7+ megapixels that the average user would never be able to tell the difference between that and a 3 megapixel cam. It's just a waste of money.

Personally I think it all depends on your use and budget. If you're just looking for a decent cam to take casual pics with, then really any camera from any reputable brand will do. I just got a Sony Cybershot DSC-L1 for $95. It is 4.1 megapixels with 3X optical zoom. For daily use it's perfect. I like the fact that it is compatible with other applications such as my photo printer.

Leave the high-end cameras to the pros.

I"m happy with my 3megapixels. I am by no means a pro at taking pictures though.
You can do MPEG movies etc. There are so many features I will never know what they all are!
