ok, its pretty accurate to say that we're all either on a bulking phase, cutting phase, or maintanance phase. but no matter what cycle or phase, the body will demand a day here and there to rest, and this is a crucial day as the body must feed itself plenty of food to insure maximum recovery.
a lot of guys that are on bulking phases consume moderate carbs on training days, but on rest days they consume very little carbs and/or cut down their total daily calories since they believe that on non training days the body doesn't need as many calories.
that makes no sense!
recovery means allowing the body to rejuvenate, heal, repair from the trauma it endures. wouldn't it make more sense to give the body all the necesary tools to maximum recovery?
now, i'm not saying to overeat on non training days. but lets say for example that you're on a cutting phase (we'll assume your goal is to maintain muscle mass and lower fat):
you lift weights as usual (mabye slightly less intensely than usual) but add 5 to 7 cardio sessions per week. your diet on a cutting phase is 50% protein 30% carbs 20% fat.
on rest days you should stay within the 50/30/20 ration but increase calories by 30%.
so if your total daily caloric intake is usually lets say 2000, on rest days you would consume 2600. the same approach would apply on a bulking or maintanance diet.
its a rest day approach that has worked for me, and the following day when i'm back at the gym, i feel as explosive as ever.
i'd like to hear some feedback.
ciao amigos.
