Diego Sanchez

Kane Fan

New member
ok I liked Diego at first he seemed pretty cool
but he considers himself the uncrowned champion ?
by that does he mean he wants to fight Matt Hughs?
cus I think Matt would bust his ass

Diego is a good personality that will help the sport and a very solid fighter, but I agree, he's definitely not ready for Hughes just yet.

he seems kinda small for some of the guys in his weigh class...

Diego is a good fighter but i personnally have not liked his attitude since the first time i saw him. He thinks hes alot tougher than he really is and i can only hope for him to fight hughes or gsp and get his reality check. Maybe in a few years he will be the champ but he is not the uncrowned champ by any means right now.

good point, but i think that if, in every fight i had been in, i had outright handed my oponent their ass i would be cocky too. he has been really dominant in every fight i have seen.

true but you have to consider of all the fights we've seen of him (unless you saw some fights other then the reality series and that last one at the ppv) where easy fights
you have to expect that whoever he fights his first fight in the UFC is going down
they have too much invested in the show and him as a fighter to put him against someone who can realistically beat him until probubly his 3rd fight or later
going to be the same deal with Forrest and really I was suprised they put Stephan against Hogar cus of how close the fight was, it was a convincing win for Bonnar but really Hogar had a lot more fighting spirit then the show had led me to believe
and on the show his only real challenge was Koshcheck who was basically untrained submissionwise and had minimal GnP skills
I'd say if Diego and Koscheck fought again, Diego may well still win, but it wouldnt' be as clear cut

ye im not saying he could take the title any time soon, i just mean that may acount for his cockyness. damn sure did kick the shit out of koscheck. it would be interesting to see a rematch in the future.

My 2 cents on "The Nightmare"

I think he's:

1) In good fighting shape
2) Is very well rounded
3) Has some experience

If he'd actually have a fight with someone of similar skill level, it would speak volumes.

And, like soneone said before, GSP would destroy him :)

I can understand how his wins have mad him cocky and i understand he is in very good shape and has experience but it happens all the time, hes gonna get over confident and lose. It will help him become a better fighter though ill tell you that. I wish the guy luck though and im looking foward to seeing who he fights next.

i dont kno how he could call himself an uncrowned champ when he never even faced a top 10 contender at 185 or 170

i personally think diego sanchez is badass...i know he hasnt played the TOP fighters of his weight yet but the guys he HAS fought he has just kicked the living crap out of...every fight ive seen of his he's won in under 3 mins...usually by KO or submission...nice ;)

even if ur a C class fighter n u go againt no names or gonna look good...i juss dont c him beating a big name in tha 170 class for a while

Who has he beaten? Didn't he just defeat Brian Gassaway? I think Gassaway is a high C to B level fighter. Is Nick Diaz in his weight class? That would be a step up I'm sure. Perhaps they should match him with Robbie Lawler.

I dont have a lot to add, but Diego is tough and he has made more of an effort to be well-rounded than any of the first season fighters. I like the guy, but he's mistaken if he thinks he's better than the top contenders in that weight class. And I'd hate to see what Matt would do to him.

Swick is OK, but I don't think he transitions from one type of fighting to the next as quickly as Diego does.
And Bonner pretty much seems to stand toe-to-toe and slug, and hope he's tougher than his opponent.
Diego has clearly made an attempt to train and utilize standup, wrestling, knees, and submissions. Now that's well-rounded.

Diego's entire gameplan is run in take down seated mount ground and pound
I've seen him fight like six times he went with a differnt plan once

I'm a fan of Sanchez (not the dirty ones bros...). I watched him during season 1 of UF and his frist UFC fight a couple weekends back. I think he is over confident, but a I think its 24-0 record or something like that will do that to you. I would love to see Hughes and him fight.

Since Diego has a good following after the show. The UFC will continue to feed him chumps so that he can keep winning. The way the American public loses interest, once he loses his first fight, they will abandon him. Right now he has enough of a following to make people want to turn on the TV and watch him fight on Spike TV or even a PPV undercard... It is not in the UFC's best interest to let him lose a fight.

BWT- Nick Diaz would WRECK him....

The Nick Diaz fight was awesome. Plenty of blood. Only bad thing was the outcome. Hopefully Sanchez might be a little more modest now. St. Pierre would ruin him....

I saw that fight. The book on Gassaway is or was is that is he is an all around kick boxing champ with poor ground skills. When he fought Sanchez I was astonished by one thing, he hardly threw any kicks! A kickboxing extroadinaire' not throwing any leg kicks! What's with that?!

Who wrecked who?

The Diaz vs Sanchez fight hasnt happened yet has it? :worried:

I have some of Diego's old fights on dvd's....mainly King of the Cage's. He is a pretty brutal fighter...like said before, always going for the GnP. Honestly, I dont blame him or degrate him for going for it, I love to GnP.

Hopefully that fight didnt happen yet, I am wanting to watch it. I like Diaz as a fighter..probably on of my favs.

As far as Sanchez being ready for hughes  I am pretty sure if Diego really wants to get humiliated and his face knocked in then Matt Hughes would have NO problem helping him out with that. I think Matt is going to be holding that title for a long time !

What do you all think of Rich Franklin. My MMA teacher has trained with Franklin and he said that he is a well rounded nice guy.

Inhibitor

Sanchez defeated Diaz via unanimous decision after 3 rounds of pretty much all ground and pound. Diaz clearly had the advantage on the feet and hit Sanchez a few good times but Sanchez would then immediately take him down to the ground where he is at his best. At one point Diaz kicked Sanchez in the face pretty hard but Sanchez kept on going. After the fight when the loser Diaz was asked now do you think Sanchez derserves to be where he is, he replied no. The crowd went into some serious booing on that one.

Sorry you missed the fight inhibitor!! It took place Saturday, Nov 5th live on SpikeTV.

What I don't get in the Diego vs Diaz fight there was a lot of ground technique but not many sub attempts. Sometimes the way Deigo stands in the guard you would think he is open to an armbar. But I guess he must be hitting pretty hard because Diaz was more intrested in avoiding getting hit.

Diego's definitely not ready for St. P or Hughes.
I'd give my left arm to see a Sanchez-Sherk or Sanchez-Stevenson.
I think now that he's beaten an established fighter, they'll give him a few soft fights before really testing him again.(or at the very least, they'll match him up with guys who mostly stand up).

Wow... I thought Diaz was better than that...

Diego has improved a lot and if he sticks with it than he might be able to compete with those guys (gsp). One of my friends beat Diego in a BJJ match years ago and really supports what I said. I agree the ufc is setting fights for him, not always a bad thing if he nows when to cut free of ther hold.

BTW could someone tell me what they thought about the fact iceman didn't close out horn last fight. I was pissed and felt like I was watching a don king match, did anyone else see it that way?

I didn't see the fight, but I've had my own suspicions about the direction things are going. I'll elaborate later after I've had time to put it together coherently.
