Some countries bank notes have super-fine writing on them. It can be hard to discern that there's writing there without a magnifier.

You can sign your checks "Scooby Doo" and most cashiers will look at your license and your signature and still take the check. It cracks me the hell up. Try it sometime. Then machines pretty much clear the checks through by routing numbers with hardly anyone looking at them.

yep....its why my company uses a Drivers License reader.

All DLs have a mag strip or a layered "upc" code on the DL.


a clerk scans th DL like a credit card, then gets an "ok" on whether the code is authentic, its then up to the clerk to match the picture with the face
