I do, because anger turned in towards yourself can happen to anyone.

How is someone destroying themselves slowly any different? It call comes from the same place. Addiction has no other payoff besides death. You'd think someone that had experienced their own slide into self-destruction, even if for a short while would empathize a little more with those where it was so built up it became a reality.
