I was strangely wondering about how he was doing a few days ago.

Junior didn't leave that note. It was referencing a story from last year:

Back in 2011, former NFL star Dave Duerson shot himself in the chest ... and explained in his suicide note that he wanted his brain donated to a research center because he believed the blows he took to the head during his football career caused him to become mentally impaired.

When someone retires at an older football age after going to the super bowl and then coming right back in the league at 40 or whatever it may show their inability to get adjusted to regular life.
That was what I was thinking about specifically the other day,
I am guessing brain injuries would only make things worse.
To play Linebacker for the number of years he did is pretty insane.
The drive and natural talent to play LB at 40
Is pretty impressive.
