Dhea

i've been taking DHEA 25mg day throughout cycle....does this help prevent gyno, etc?? i have hardly used an AI, except for little bloat here and there, but never got probs with nips, etc....

Macro is the one to ask on this. I remember him saying something about DHEA that caught my attention before.

it wont prevent gyno
it will help stimulate immune system
it will help maintain levels of natural progesterone and pregnenolone
it may increase gyno risk if used without an AI, as it can convert to estrogen

25mg is pretty low (orally), so its unlikely to cause any "extra" gyno worries.

i think he would recommend aifm....

I bought a bottle of dhea 300tabs 25 mg a while ago.
I read studies that high doses at at 200mg can actually noticeable improve the physique, so for the last week or two I've been taking 300mg per day of the stuff.

I said what the hell its worth a shot since I already had the bottle and 25mg probaqbly won't do much.

I'm also taking aifm.

hmmm...interesting.....would like to know how you feel after a few months at that dose.....you take that all at once?

I take 300mg (12 tabs) every night until the bottle runs out.
My decision to do this was partially to do with what I read on the www.ast-ss.com website where the sell dhea among other (high quality) supplements:

DHEA May Have A Significant Impact On Lean Body Mass
In one study conducted by D. Jakubowicz and colleagues, 22 men took 300 mg of DHEA nightly for 30 days. They observed an average 27% fall in insulin levels. They also found an 89% increase in IGF-1 (a powerful hormone with multi-faceted effects, most notable its growth hormone-like effects on body composition), a 14% decrease in body fat, and a 7.8% increase in lean body mass.

DHEA May Block Cortisol’s Catabolic (Breakdown) Effects On Muscle Tissue
Other discussions at the DHEA conference centered on the Cortisol - DHEA relationship. Cortisol is a catabolic (tissue breakdown) inducing stress hormone. Exercise has been shown to significantly raise serum cortisol levels. These exercise- induced, elevated cortisol levels may contribute profoundly to catabolic effects on muscle tissue. DHEA has been shown to block some acute effects of stress induced cortisol release.

i have read the same studies.....they also warn about liver toxicity, prostrate, anxiety, blood pressue, etc issues.....that is why i stuck to 25mg....but i am re-thinking that. just did some more reading....i didn't realize DHEA was an unregulated drug, so there's really no certainty in knowing the doses are as they say they are.....and the only reason its not banned as a prohormone is b/c of the political clout of its manufacturers.....wonderful!!

i think i might join you, pursuit, in the pursuit of DHEA happiness.....except i think i'll split my tabs between morning and night and work up to 300 within a week.....this should bode well for the upcoming weeks in which i am ending my cycle too....

it is a chemical i think needs to be looked at again,,,a few years back there was some negative views on DHEA on most BB boards,,alot of dosing issues...i think the nutritional supplement company Giant Nutrition makes a 250mg per capsule

yeah, it looks like a great dissertation/research subject when i make it back to grad school.....

....unfortunately, from my web-research, i am coming to think that the studies are "cushioned" by certain political forces which are, at this time, under the radar yet very influencel. maybe that would be better research.

I Take 25mg Dhea Ed Mostly To Keep Sex Drive Up, Works Well. Have Read Warnings About Taking More Than 25mg, So I Dont, And Dont Feel I Need To. If 25mg Works Why Use More.

About how much DHEA is delivered per spray of AIFM? Is it more bio-available transdermally (as with AIFM) or orally?

i've read that oral bioavailability is poorer than transdermally, yet both are fairly poor. do a search over at anabolicminds.com forums.....good posts....

as an addendum, anyone know if the ATD in aifm available OTC?

damn, i just checked my bottle and i've been taking the 50mg pill every morning.....been thinking it was 25 this whole time.....

that along with chromium pico and a few cortislims every morning has made a big difference

Excellent question - I have asked myself the same.

Any scientific studies on this? (Not to disregard what was said above)

Macro & Ulter?

Those are good links Pitbull..recommended reading.

My gut feeling is that DHEA is or can be suppressive. If your supplying your body with DHEA, your giving your body the raw material to produce what it needs ie testosterone and estrogen, and your body mayuse that instead while turning down its own production of the hormones. (AIFM may keep LH levels up)

Even when you take very high doses of DHEA, the bodes test and estrogen will still be unelevated because the body can chose not to convert it down to androstenedione then testosterone and estrogen in order to retain homeostasis.

In saying this, DHEA may have anabolic effect in its own right.
Also it may help people with low testosterone to achieve normal levels.

I'd also like to know how much DHEA is in AIFM.

I don't think any of those studies support DHEA supplementation as being favorable... the information is sketchy at best.

The first link's study uses 10 men (5 test, 5 placebo)... I hardly think that's a large enough study to conclude anything

The other studies quoted in the second link:
The first was done on postmenopausal women. The second showed no changes in testosterone or estrogen, but did shown an increase in androstenedione. Not sure how beneficial (or detrimental) an increase of androstenedione is? The third test was done on perimenopausal women. Finally, last study showed marked increase in estrogen levels in elderly men whom were DHEA deficient.

The studies show no increase in total or free testosterone. Very few showed any increase lean muscle mass. Some show an increase in estrogen, while others do not. Virtually all report an increase in DHEA and androstendione.

Still waiting to hear from Macro / Ulter to see if they have any positive, conclusive studies.
