Dextrose

I read that one should take Dextrose POW, what exactly is that and what form does it come in? Where do I get that and how much should one take??

Personally I don't use dextrose. At the moment I don't do any of the PW shake business either. Just eat real food. Somewhere on here there's an article that says women don't benefit from dextrose like guys.

Dextrose is basically just a really simple carb that can be quickly absorbed, as you would want post workout to help replace the glycogen you burned up. You might be able to get it at a GNC of a health food store (powder form) but I recall the one time I went looking for it I ended up ordering on line..

You can google it to get more info.

Oh BAH, I think it is overrated. Maltodextrin is also recommended.

Basically, Dext and Malto are very simple sugars that get absorbed into your muscle quickly PWO. They are *supposed* to help with recovery and growth.

I say "bah" because I tried it and didn't notice a damn bit of difference.

I vote go with a protein source PWO and you will be fine. Either a shake or real food. You can always try it and see, but I do NOT do carbs PWO. I read a similar things as Sassy - that women do not benefit from simple carbs PWO as much as men. I'll see if I can find it.

I NOW brand has some, check out www.dpsnutrition.com for some, or your local supp store, like Sassy said.

My gf and I have talked quite a bit about this subject. I think that everyone needs to experiment to see what works best for them. I personally get sore as hell if I don't take simple carbs post. It doesn't matter for me though. I can eat or drink anything that spikes my insulin and I'm fine. I've tried it all and seen zero difference. I do think too many people take carbs in after a wimpy workout. People at my gym will not even break a sweat and then they chug a post shake? My gf's trainer never, ever eats simple carbs. She's 50yrs old and less than 7%bf year round. My gf does drink a post shake and she's maybe 8%. Gotta try both schools of thought and see what works best.
