Dextrose

What do you guys use to measure? TBS? CUP?

I bought a digital scale (0,1 gr accuracy) and then measure how many grams I need. I then transfer the quantity to a spoon and see how much it is...

meaning, I measure all my food once (the first time only) and then write down how does that translates to spoons or cups...

to answer your question: Spoons... 1 spoon is about 11 grs.

BY the way, Dextrose is much heavier than maltodextrine... I would recommend everybody to buy a cheap digital scale so you can remove the guessing. Makes life much easier (mine was like 20 bucks)

peace

i'M ASSUMING YOU mean a TB..........I want to convert it to a normal protein scoop.........mine reads 1.25tbs = 4g of carbs...........so I'm guess a half scoop is approx. 20-25g of carbs...........

yep, a tbspoon.

btw, since dextrose is 100% carbs, if 1 tbspoon is 11 grs, there is no way that "1.25tbs = 4g of carbs.". Only way is that your dextrose is much lighter than mine (how could that be), the tablespoon of the people making your dextrose are for midgets or they simply fcked up the label (likely)

each gram of weight is 1 gram of carbs if we are talking pure dextrose...

is the same slimfast rule: 1 gram slimfat= 1 gram fat ass.

(Damn I read so many replies of you flaming people for drinking slim fast... it got funny at a point..)

No need to go off on a tangent bro............

my label reads 1.25tb = 4g of carb, 4g of sugar....it's from NOW foods.........I highly doubt the label is wrong, although it wouldnt be the first time.....let's assum it's correct...........how many tbs would u use

The formula I use is from an ABCbodybuilding article on PWO nutrition.

I quote:

" As a general rule, on a bulk-up plan the amount of carbs to consume following a hardcore weight training session is five grams of carbs per every 10 pounds of body weight.

During a bulking phase I recommend consuming half the amount of protein in grams as you did carbs in grams"

They also recommend you divide your carbs in 50% maltodextrine and 50% dextrose. Also, your PWO shake should reflect the intensity of the work out and the size of the muscle group trained (i.e you should need more carbs after training back or legs and less after training triceps or biceps)

so:

Carbs grs: Weight Lbs/10*5

tbspoons: Carbs grs/4

there you have it... if you are using also maltodex, further divide by 2 and complete with maltodex.

hope it helps.

BTW, the article is titled "The Window of Opportunity" and is worth reading.

Whats a good source for dextrose???

You should be able to get it pure. Don't make the mistake some people do when for example they swap Maltodextrine for Splenda... (because splenda is 98% maltodextrine)

Dextrose is dextrose, you can only get it pure

how much do YOU use? Stats?

Me, I am on a "permanent cutting cycle" until I get to the 9% I am looking for. I calculate that to be about August this year.

I started not so long ago, but have spent a considerable amount of time reading/researching and doing what I have learned. Result is that I have dropped 50 pounds in 4.5 months with negligible muscle losses.

Right now I am still fat, but better by the day (I am at 215lbs, 6' and 28%BF), on average I'm losing about 900 grs fat per week and 100 ~ 150 grs LBM.

I posted my history here also somewhere.

I use 50 grs Whey, 25 grs Dextrose and 25 grs Maltodextrine every day (even on the 2 days I only do cardio). All this in 1 liter water. Drink the first half right away, the second half over a half hour period (to avoid insuline spikes) and about 1 hour later, I have my dinner (protein and fats, no carbs).

Check out this graph... http://www.ccfiles.de/progress_27jan2005.jpg

This is my progress until today, see how that black line (Kg Fat) keeps going down while the yellow line (LBM) remains steady? :-) this makes my day everytime I see it.

That graph is VERY impressive pintoca. I'd like to see your diet but unfortunately I can't read Spanish.

Anyway... back to the topic... I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I keep some kitchen scales on the kitchen table and measure the exact amount I need each time. :)

Thanks man, it's become quite the hobby to feed the data every 2 days and see it grow... I have a key translation for my diet, if you are interested, just PM me and I will send it.

I do more or less the thing you do, but I only measure once, then I just repeat what I did.

In Germany, you can get dextrose in Supermarkets, in the bakery section (apparently is used in some recipes...) also in the sports part of normal supermarkets... I get mine in Wall-Mart... (yup, we got those here). If it helps anybody who happens to be around here, it is called Traubenzucker (grapes sugar)

3 regular (20 CC) scoops of dextrose equal 1 C, which is 100 g of dextrose. Approximately 33 g per scoop.
ok..getting back to tablespoons and teaspoons.........yesterday I used 4 tablespoons..........that pretty close?

I don't use tablespoons. It's easier to just use a protein scoop.

Dude just get a scale and measure it in grams, you should have a scale anyway, you being a diet guru and all :)

Someone on the board measured it a while back using a digital scale. He came up with this and it's pretty accurate (+/-5).

1/4 cup= 35 grams of Carbs
1/3 cup= 47 grams of Carbs
1/2 cup= 70 grams of Carbs

Go to Walmart and get some measuring cups. Easy as pie... :)

Assuming you enhale your protein shake/dextrose within 10 minutes after your workout, how long do you wait until you have your pwo meal?? And what is it?? Currently I'm not using dextrose, but plan on buying some. Pwo I've been downing a 40g protein shake, then 10 minutes later having 2 chicken breasts with a baked potato.
