In dental terms, I am referring to a fixed (cemented) bridge. Implants are very expensive ($900+ per tooth), prone to infection, esp. the posterior (rear) teeth where it is hard to maintain good oral hygiene, etc. If they break, or fail you are out the $. Usually, you go to a general-family dentist and he can make these bridges for you. You have the good, natural tooth prepped (to accept a crown/cap), impressions are taken, a temporary acrylic crown is made, the impressions are sent to a dental laboratory to be manufactured over 1-2 weeks, you go back and the new bridge (crown with pontic attached) is cemented. You probably will have to have a little anesthetic at the prep visit because some gum tissue will be slightly irritated, but not for the cementalion/2nd visit. Get (pre-treatment) estimates if you have insurance, and it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion. If you don't have ins., still get some 2nd opinions (prices).
