Deli meats...

Are deli meats that bad? I'm getting tired of tuna, lactose intolerant, and need another protein source.

i wouldnt be too crazy about them, like already mentioned, high in sodium...once in a while it won't kill you but i wouldn't make a habit of it. can stick to the turkey and chicken perhaps, to change things up from time to time.

Its just the preservatives that are bad. People still seem scared about high sodium levels.... The truth is though, sodium levels dont do any bad at all for MOST people. Its VERY rare to find people who react to sodium (hypertension).

I occaisonally get Healthy Choice turkey at the deli for something different....they have a website with all the nutritional info on it....

i was under the impression that if you got the fresh sliced deli meat at the meat counter that it wasnt that bad, compared to the prepackaged stuff.

thats generally true, to a certain extent. there is usually less sugar but a little kmore sodium i think. all i know is i get rare roast beed and it tastes incredible and it has little salt. anything other than roast beef might be an exception. not sure though

SodiumIS bad for most people, water retention, hypertention, & high blood presure, just to name a few of the effects of salt.

Buy a fresh turkeybreast, ham or whatever and roast it yourself, get a meat slicer, and make your own deli! Its the only way to avoid all the persevatives...

You're wrong about that. Sodium is ok for MOST people. Very few are sensitive to sodium i.e. hypertension. Again, the preservatives are the only troublesome ingredient.

You'd think that with Asians eating 20-30 GRAMS of sodium a day, they would ALL suffer from hypertension ;)
