Abstract: The purpose of the present study was to investigate regional changes in body composition and anthropometric variables induced by nandrolone decanoate in bodybuilders. In a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled design 16 subjects received weekly intramuscular injections containing 200 mg nandrolone decanoate (ND) or placebo. Composition of total body and body parts were assessed using dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), skinfolds and circumferences. Measurements were performed at baseline, after 8 weeks ND administration period and 6 weeks after drug withdrawal. DEXA revealed that total body mass (from 76.16 ± 2.70 to 78.73 ± 4.07 kg, p < 0.5) and bone-free lean mass (from 59.54 ± 2.36 to 63.06 ± 2.99 kg, p < 0.025) increased significantly during ND administration whereas bone mineral mass remained unchanged. Six weeks after drug cessation bone-free lean mass was still increased compared to baseline levels. During ND administration significant increments of bone-free lean mass of the trunk (+ 2.03 kg) and legs (+ 1.08 kg) could be observed. Percentage fat of the legs decreased during the drug intervention period (-- 1.9 %) and remained lowered six weeks after drug withdrawal. No alteration in any variable of the arms was observed. Skinfolds did not change during the entire study period in both groups. After 8 weeks ND administration circumference of the neck was increased (+ 0.9 cm) significantly although all circumferences underwent non-significant gains. In conclusion, the intramuscular administration of nandrolone decanoate (200 mg per week) during eight weeks induced an increase of body weight and bone-free lean body mass in bodybuilders that was mainly situated in the trunk and legs as determined by DEXA. The changes in the trunk were reflected in the circumferences but not the alterations in the legs. Skinfolds were not able to detect changes of fat mass of body parts. DEXA revealed that total fat mass and total percentage fat remained unaffected by drug administration while percentage fat of the legs decreased and remained lowered after drug cessation. These data indicate that changes of the composition of body parts induced by ND are elucidated less accurately by circumferences or skinfolds rather than by DEXA.

Done in guys, but interesting none the less.

Hmmmm, so they're saying that nandrolone increases fat free mass in bodybuilders! No wonder folks don't take scientific research seriously! Hehehe what a discovery.

Wilson6, do you happen to know if there were any females "subjects" in that study? At 74-79kg they would be pretty small male BBs unless they were contest ready short dudes.

I also wonder, since total fat mass didn't change....where did the fat go? Presumably into visceral stores? My other question is "where do you sign up for these studies" LOL.

They were all male. Avg HT was 175 cm. I have never seen a study were they give women BBs AAS as part of the study. Only HIV patients.

Ya gotta admit that an average net LBM gain of 3kg is pretty good on 200mg per week. Makes ya wonder why so many guys go for 600-1000mg of mixed AS for their first cycle? I guess it's beause that's the advice they get on the anabolic boards.

I only asked the question about women because 1) the study DID say it was given to bodybuilders, and 200mg per week is low for most male bodybuilders, 2) the guys were on the light side, and most importantly as I'm sure Wilson6 knows 3) tendency for bodyfat distribution and reditribution is different between men and women. For all we know the Deca merely interfered with the guys HPT axis so they produced less circulating Test and therefore less estrogen conversion. Women with functioning ovaries might not get this same fat loss mobilization....Or even worse if you're a guy, all that fat may have moved from their thighs to their abs! Haha.

Hey! No belittling the anabolic board...... :)

If you actually take a look at the studies these weren't
LEAN individuals.(Just a thought)

59Kg---->63Kg LBM increase
74Kg----->77Kg Total weight increase.

(74-59)/74= 20.2% BF

Sorry Fonz, the study measured BONE FREE lean mass, so we don't know how lean they were, but probably pretty lean. I'm sure the info is there if we would read the entire article. I'm not slagging of THE anabolic board, just the boards in general that are on the internet. And really it's not the boards fault. It's the bodybuilding mentality that "more is always better" that cracks me up. Certainly 200mg per week of TEST is enough to disrupt an average male's HPT axis enough to be used as birth control (I wish more guys would take test!). Dunno how much deca it would take. Probably just enough to get Deca dick (double bonus for birth control LOL).

USC college is taking applicants for old farts to participate in an ANAVAR study. Aaaargghhh....can't remember if it is genderly segregated though...i'll have to check on that.

About the deca being used for male birth control...I'm sure we (that is us males on this here board) would be first in line if given the opportunity...LOL. Deca duck would suck though...T-E-S-T!!!

There are a couple of nandrolone contraceptive studies from the 80's. Worked pretty well, but the drop in libido was an issue. Still need some Test in the mix.

That's one of the reasons (besides the politics of androgens) that test and/or Deca are not being used per se as a male contraceptive agent. In some it works great at 200 mg/wk (zero sperm in a few weeks). For others 1000 mg/wk doesn't shut them down.
