Dear Orbs, what should we do with alters ?

Since we have some of them and sometimes, from "high profile" members, I was wondering what would you do as an admin. Would you ban them ? Let them alone and do their own lame stuff ? Give them a special title like "100% gay-alter shit certified" ? Ban both the alter and it's author ? Make this alter a mod ? or simply create a forum where every thread started by one of these assclowns would be dumped ?

Depends, if they're funny and making light of the subjects at hand, leave 'em.

If they're annoying and all that other good stuff, make them talk to BBF on the phone for an hour before banning them.

There's two other ways that I know of. They're easily circumvented...so I'm not gonna post them.

Yes, some are entertaining. But even the good ones put people on edge in their interrelations. No one knows who is genuine.

Not a big deal. Relatively nothing on the board is a big deal. But in that context it does make things less enjoyable, and frankly too many use it as a cowardly way of attacking others. Have some balls
 
I don't think Cipher has posted much since he left. If he has I will be pissed that he never pmed me. I could also see wittyusername and broley as his possible alters but not nubly.

if a male member and a female member are both posting from the same IP address, they better be willing to provide proof that they are not the same person when asked (and they should be asked). the reason i don't say banishment right away is because there are a few legit situations like that.

an alter created solely to stir up trouble by flaming people or just posting total BS should exposed immediately, possibly in a locked sticky at the top of the forum where they've "done their damage." the creator of the alter, however, that's a tough call. non-plats who create an alter, IMO, should be banned unless they go plat and stay plat. plat members should get one warning, unless the alter was in violation of the TOS for EF or really over the edge with maybe racism or something that won't be tolerated from anyone on the site anyway.

funny alters should be allowed to stay, but with their user title changed to say who's alter they are, unless someone decides to blow the right person to keep it a secret. but in the case of SH$DOW F$LCON, who has plat "alters" that he openly admits are his, then let it be.

all that is just my opinion.
 
I think alters are lame but as long as they're not created just to start shit I don't have any real problem with them.

IPs are not always good evidence. What if two roommates are sharing the same DSL or cable modem network, but have different computers and Elite IDs? Or husbands and wives, or other couples?

If the alter is extremely funny(MG) let them stay and do not out them.

Unfortunetly, there hasnt been any good alters since MG, so ban them.
 
if someone registers another username on the site from the same IP address and/or email address as another account that was registered before that one, then the username should appear in red with the original username under it in parentheses
 
Make a big ass list in a thread of just the alters, but not the original owner.

Then we'll vote on the suckitude of said alters. Funny ones stay. Lame ones banned.

crak600 and cutiepie04 both registered from the same computer and post from the same computer.

IIRC, Daisy Girl and her boyfriend/fiance post from the same computer.

Devistation and Dakotah as well.

there's others i can't remember offhand.

sometimes the 2 names from 1 computer is legit. i've proved to a few people that we are in fact NOT the same person. i say if proof is provided that the 2nd user name isn't an alter, then no reason to take any action.

Suppose I post from one acount at home and an alter at work? I can PC anywhere into my work box and alter all day. Fact is I'd rather be Dial_tone than anyone else. I worked hard to build up my fabulous reputation. :)
 
how about banning the main handle and just leaving them the alter, or exchange all the post amount and karma amounts with the alters
 
i'm thinking gameshow here. round up some contestants/alters and make 'em dance. the winner gets to stick around, or some other good shit. the loser(s) get exposed and heavily derided, or some other bad shit.

I think its sad that our board would need alters in order for us all to be entertained. Only real people should post on this board. What has this board come to?
 
Have a plat feature that cross-checks someone's IP and lists the other handles they've logged in under.

Hard to say...we've had some alters that were good for the board and plenty that were not.

Alters like Cool_page_me, EYEPEE, John Blaze, The Ewwww Brothers, and MG made us all laugh. That's altering done the right way. Although I thought EYEPEE originated as a racist shot at Kakdiesel, but he was still fucking funny as hell and he didn't openly bust on Kak. BiIntensity - funny and much needed. I think that if the alter is poking fun at a member of the board who is a giant tool, let it go as long as it doesn't get to the point where it's just wrong.

A male member of the board creating a female alter - I don't care who it is, give them a warning and then if they continue doing it, go with a suspension and then a ban. And it's not for the reason that a bunch of dudes will feel like idiots for hitting on the alter, but moreso for the fact that we get 10,000 threads giving the female alter attention and then you want to stab your eyes out eventually. Thus far there's been no redeeming quality to a male member creating a female alter.

And like FZ said, let us vote on who's funny and who isn't while keeping their identity secret. Expose the lame alters so we can publically ridicule their creators and make them despised outcasts.
 
Whatever you guys want is fine with me. I retired my alter awhile back. It got boring after about 2 weeks.
 
i've been expecting for someone to 'out' me for some time, but no one has yet.

does that mean i'm acceptable lol? :)

Ok I admit it... foxygel is my alter. I created him, but my imagination get a little out of hand, I lost the password to his account, after creating it behind a proxy server, and foxygel has taken on a life of his own... now I don't know how to put him down... its like frankenstien's monster...

if you did that, there'd really be no way for anyone to know unless you logged in under both names from the same IP address. i could do the same thing if i wanted to...use my regular name at home and create an alter from school, but i have the same reasons as you do for not making an alter (we're both have infamous around these parts ;) ).

yes, the e-mail addys are both different, but we only have one computer so the IP address is the same. while i do want to build a second computer, i have no reason to take the time or energy to learn IP masking programs to keep us separate from each other when on forums. plus i'd have to work it past the router and cable modem. not worth it, and the people in charge around here know that we both post from separate computers and are separate people.
 
well folks, if you cant figure out "who's alter" I am, then maybe wouldnt it make sense, that I'm not an alter, and actually a real person?

nah. we should just get rid of all the alters that can't prove they're not an alter. alters are fuckin retarded and just a cry for attention, someone's creation to spout off because they don't have the balls to say things under their normal user name even with the anonymity of the net, or it's a man with serious insecurities so he makes a female alter.

on another note related to alters....there's a lot of other boards on the net that while they do allow poop threads and other unbelievably wild stuff, they do NOT allow alters, banning both the alter and the creater of the alter on the first offense.

Radar did it her IP check it is totaly diffrent then BBF's. Also he has posted two pics of her now she looks like a girl to me. Also her post style seems to be female to me so I am pretty sure she is a real girl.
