Deadlifts rule.....

TC2

New member
After hearing all the training boards bros talk about DLs I decided to drop all other back exercises and just do deadlifts(and squats of course).

Been one month and already very noticable results, thicker back and neck.

Do them.

and pretty soon your going to have a back that bodybuilders could only envy!! that's what deads do!! congrats brotha. tb

Do yo udo them sumo or conventional? I just started doing deads recently and I want to build up my back, but they feel so much more natural sumo-style for me, which recruits the hips more and the back less,... :(

hey-
not all bosybuilders neglect deads

i must say i have made great improvements using them, i think deads have improved my back double biceps more than any other movements could help it
(it is a weak pose for me)

deadlifts of some kind should always be a staple in the program.

the majority of bodybuilders do neglect deadlifts.

the 3 best backs of bodybuilders in the history of bodybuilding are:

Franco Columbo - a powerlifter that was eventually able to deadlift 750lbs with nothing but a belt i think weighing in under 200lbs.

Dorian Yates - before hurting his back, was known for often going to the gym for a day of nothing but deadlifts.

Ronnie Coleman - a powerlifter turned bodybuilder. within the last 2 years coleman was able to pull 800lb deadlift weighing in at 315. even if it was with straps, thats a crap load of weight.

X

I love them with all my heart! They definetly should be in everyone's routine, even if in only small poundages. People always hurt there back picking something up, but hopefully with proper training of the back could have avoided the problem altogether.

Is the deadlift the perfect lift? What else comes close to it?

Yep, under 200 by a few pounds. Franco nearly always trained like a PL'er, very thick and very strong.

I'm currently trying to work out the errors with my DL technique. I'm thick and strong in the lower body but very scrawny in the upper. Looks like I'm comprising my form unconsciously to try to compensate. In july I squated 365 X 1 down to parallel but am only deadlifting 205. I think I've been DL'ing more like a good morning, trying to lift entirely with the strength of my thick hammies and erectors.

Probably more info about anyone cared to read.

awesome fuckin post brotha. i agree that some sort of deadlift(floor deads, reverse band deads, or rack deads)should be in all training programs!!

....bar..$135
....plates....$.10 per pound
....belt and suit...close to $200
....deadlifting all the plates in the gym fully equipped....priceless!!!

I don't use a belt for DL...or anything for that matter, but I don't compete.

anya, you squatted 365!! That's great. As for your DL, do you sumo or conventional? I prefer sumo with a wiiiiiiiiide stance, toes out at an angle. What is your set up like?

BTW, I cared enough to read! :)

this week i started a new 6 week program and i will be doing deads on my back day :-) I'm not very good at them though, I feel like a wussy when i start doing them again, i see my teammate pulling 525 for reps and i can do like 500 for one lol

dude... don't drop all the other back exercises. deadlifts rock, but they aren't EVERYTHING. throw some weighted pullups in at least to hit your lats and rhomboids hard. THEN you'll have madddd back.

Im looking to max at the end up this training cycle. I haven't maxed since last fall actually. I'll be doing sets of triples and doubles and im going to max in bench, squat, deads, clean, snatch, and split jerk. I'll definately keep everyone posted as i progress.

This is where I was born lucky, I had wings at birth. I always(even as a child)a WIDE V taper, but not alot of middle back thickness.

I don't really need any other back exercises, especially now that I've found deads.

Seriously, if you dont do them you need to atleast try some for a while.

i agree!!! deads builds ya such a thick fuckin back!!!! tb

Hmm very good post, I just added deads into my routine and i was wondering what would be a good stance for a beginner, i keep hearing about sumo and conventional. Should i consider conventional and if so what is a good starters weight to use. Thanx

Conventional.

My hams and erectors are really thick but my middle and upper back, shoulders, arms, everything else is really underdeveloped. I have discovered I have been basically just doing a good morning because I've just trying to pull that weight with the stronger muscles. I just had someone talk me through a proper dead and after about 5 attempts my 1RM went up about 35 pounds. Its still less than my squat but at least I'm getting the idea.

Anya, good options to build up your back/DL are BB rows and GM's...real ones!:)

Destroyer03, try both! What kind of experience do you have lifting? If DL's are brand spanking new, start with the bar to get your form down. Depending on how easy/hard it is, you'll be able to tell how much to add. If your form breaks down, then you definitey need to bring the weight down. Don't sacrafice good form for more poundage.

BACK DAY!

I did heavy legs yesterday, so I want to skip Deads this week and pick em up again next.....anywho, does anyone have a good program w/o these two..........?

Will do:
Weighted Pull-ups
Tbar Rows
Bent over barbell rows........anything else? Hypers? Cable Row> Lat Pull?

Top Bottom
