deadlifts and squats

They have slippers too. The issue with sneakers and lifting is that you want a rock solid foundation with no 'give' to push against. This gives you stability throughout your structure (i.e. think about a building's foundation). This is why westside prefers Chucks, Olympic Lifters have hard soles - sometimes rubber over wood on their shoes, and why you hear about deadlifting barefoot/slippers (in addition to elimintating the height of any heal).

Actually I was wondering why PL's want a completely flat sole with zero heel and OL's have what looks like a wooden wedge in their shoes.

Does the heel help the Oly lifter get *way* below parallel? Do all their different moves require some shifting of the weight forward?

im going to try deadlifting/ squats with sandles sometime... btu i use flat boots when doing it . i feel like it supports the ankles more

PL squats utilize more glutes and hamstrings so the foot being flat helps the recruitment of these muscles. Also since you push outwards the flat sole helps prevent rolling of the ankle. As for deadlifting you don't want a wedge as it causes some forward motion. Also the closer you are to the floor the less distance you have to move the weight.

As for oly lifting you utilize mainly quads. The wedge sole helps keep the quads the main focus. Also it helps with the split on lifts making the heel contact on the back foot more stable with less of a stretch to achieve contact.

Yes the wedge heel helps with depth a bit because it causes the knee to travel forward a bit. Yes both oly lifts will have a forward weight shift.

socks for both.
Lately i have been doing deads right after squats and have absolutely loved it. Although, it's hard to go all out on both.

no problems slipping or anything?

i'm not going for numbers, but if there is anything i can do to get more out a lift, i want to give it a fair go

NEVER had one slip. My partner tried it for the first time today with deads and seemed to like.

The only shoes i would consider ever using again are workboots, wrestling shoes, or lifting shoes.

Interesting concept regarding the wedged heel. I'm actually trying to oly squat now but with flat soled shoes (no heel at all).

I noticed my last squat workout that I really have to stretch/loosen up my ankles to get as low as possible.

I wear chucks for squatting and wrestling shoes when I pull(if I remember to take them with me)

I would lift barefoot if I were not afraid of those morons around dropping a 45 on my toes
