There was a thread a while back about scraping your shins on the deadlft but I can't find it. The general opinion was that it's not necessary for a good lift but learn to live with it.
I typically do my deads with a double-overhand grip whenever my hands will cope with it but I have noticed that when I use a mixed grip that the side with the overhand is the one more likely to get scraped.
I've been doing well for a while not to get scraped but yesterday I was one my third or fourth set and took skin off both legs on the way back down after lockout. That seems just wrong to me and I was wondering whether it might indicate something bad with my form or a weak muscle group.
I also noticed that I very much tend to lift up rather than lifting back in the deadlift. I do keep my head up but can never seem to get any feeling of pulling the weight backwards.
I also tried some Dimmels last week. Almost removed my kneecap on the first rep. Is there some technique on the drop to miss the knees? I was using fairly light weight.
