Dale Carnegie

Norman Bates

New member
I just finished reading his book and for what i have heard about it I´m not really that impressed.
For me it seems as if the author forgot to mention that sometimes you need a backbone to be accepted, too and to avoid being taken advantage of.

Despite that , his suggestions are not really that great.
Something like "keep smiling" "be interested in other people" and "don´t forget other people´s names" isn´t what i had expected.

Has anyone else read that book?

I think it's a great book.

You'd be surprised how many people don't do the simple things he suggests. All he really does is tell you to be more outgoing and look at things from other peoples points of view...it's a great way to do business.

It's the playbook with which Bill Clinton won a second term. No matter how much Bob Dole tried to outwit him, Bill just kept smiling. It flustered the crap out of Dole and he came off way too serious and outmatched. But I know what you mean, I didn't think too much of Dale Carnegie's book.

By far the best book I have on behavior is a published dissertation by a psychotherapist. I forgot the book name, the dissertation is published under another name. Something like communication patterns and behavior modification therapy. I made a copy of it but I don't have the cover sheet anymore so I don't know the exact name of the dissertation. I think the authors name is Dr. King. He counselled thousands of people and came up with archetypes of speech that suggest the underlying meaning behind what people are really saying. Some of the little points it made I still use to this day and find it to be rather effective in that if you know where someone is coming from you will know how to communicate best with them.

i just downloaded a copy off kazaa (516KB). i can email you a copy if you want one. I tried putting the book in a post but i figured it would waste alot of bandwidth.

I think it's an excellent book. It has helped me alot in business.
