Cycle w/o supplements?

Anyone ever run a bulking cycle w/o protein, or weight gainer powders, and just ate a lot of food? If so which had better results?

I know there are some guys who eat only whole foods.
I guess it depends on how your appetite is.
Me personally wouldn't even be able to come close to the amount of cals and protein that I need w/out shakes.
I've been drinking mostly shakes this cycle beside 1lb. steak and some milk due to some stressfull personal issues, but I have to say that I can't tell a differance.
As long as you're getting in the cals and protein, to me that's all that matters.

It's impossible to determine which is BETTER because there are thousands of variables beyond those two things. Supplements, SUPPLEMENT -- they help. If something is an advantage how can it be worse?

Honestly think about it. All the protein powders and weight gainers were not always around. How do you think they did it????? INMO nothing beats wholesome foods. And if you cutting I have an organic butcher by me...The meat is so good and fresh no chemicals..i swear im harder leaner when eating that then anything else.

I am very old schooled. I still believe in trying to get all of my protein or as much as possible from real food. All of my cycles are done by eating as much food as possible and as few shakes as possible. I only have 2 shakes ED max(one in the AM on the bus going to NYC..and the other right after i work out/before bed) and other then that I eat like 6 or more times ED(50g of protein per meal) outside of the shakes. People say it costs so much more eating real food. I dont find it to be so. Instead of buying so much powder just buy chicken.

True.
This debate will go on forever.
Like I said as long as a suffecient amount of cals and protein is consumed, be it powder, meat, or dairy I think that's all that matters

Let me clarify the reason for asking. When I drink my weight gainer/protein shakes iy kills my appetite for a while. I'm supposed to drink it twice a day a least. I'm thinking about just eating a lot more, and having one double dose shake before bed.

There's alot of things that you can add to shakes to get the cals instead of using weight gainer and it would probably be easier to get down.
Some of the things that I add:

ANPB
milk
oats
eggs
bananas

Adding a mixture of these ingredients will improve the flavor and would probably easier to handle than 8 large scoops of powder or whatever the hell some of those things are.
I can get down a 800-1000 cal shake pretty easy using the right ingredients.

3 shakes a day , 150 g protein, the rest i get from my meals to achieve 300 gm /day. tough to do with all food for me. but both shakes/food does the job

Yeah I think I'm going to stick w/ both, just leaving the shake at the end. I also add Steel Cut Oats to my shakes. @ 150 Cal. 1/4 cup I add 1 n' 1/2 cups.

This is a good point. I never understood the concept of a thick heavy shake that stuffs you if it leaves you too full to eat. FOOD is most important. Now, if you could drink something light that was calorie dense, THAT would make sense on a bulking plan. That's why the tropical orange BIG BLAST is so perfect. You can drink a couple of them a day and it's like having a Snapple -- very light and won't leave you full. It's also a good idea to eat calorie dense food such as nuts and olives. A cup of each isn't much food yet they each contain a few hundred calories.
