cutting vs bulking

how do your workouts very on a cutting cycle versus a bulking cycle, including cardio vascular, and from the strength training stand point do your splits change, and also do the amount of sets and reps change, thanks karma for good responses

Thanks,

I do no cardio during bulking to add as much size as possible, after all you want to gain as much as possible, then during the cutting phrase you will see the extra muscle that has been added.

when i'm bulking my workout routine is different in reps

say for instance, while bulking i will do a set of 10 as a warm up, then a set of 8 with increased weight...then i go with a weight that 4-6 reps is a max and do about 3 more sets like that, trying to up the weight each set......when cutting i keep it more at weight that I can do reps of 8-10

i also don't cardio during bulking, but during cutting i try to get in 2-3 days of morning cardio on an empty stomach

Why would you lift weights differently when you're cutting?

If it works for gaining muscle, it will work for preserving muscle.

Lift heavy all the time.

Cutting i use the first 4-5 sets heavy then drop 50% for lots of reps , it really helps in the cardio department and brings out the cuts in the muscles.

thanks fellas, need to spread karma around before giving to radar again, or whatever it says, i will spread some around alittle later and hit ya up, bumping for some more opinions, the more the bettter ;-)

I just started a half bulk/half cut cycle and I plan on doing 45 min cardio 5 x week throughout the whole thing. I upped my cals a bit to 5 k a day for the bulk portion, so I'm still getting plenty for putting on muscle. This will be the 1st time I tried doing cardio while bulking and I want to see if it helps keep off some unwanted fat. I'll let everyone know how it goes.

I am back from a 2 year lay off and my "cutting" is more of a fat removal.

I am doing 20 min of intense treadmill wlaking to start. Lfting for 30-45 mins after that then i do 10-15 mins more cardio on an eliptical.

On the eliptical I do a modified training technique I used when I played college hockey. Normal speed for 2 mins then burst for 30 sec, then do again.

By the time Im done working out I am dripping sweat and feel like I need to lay down :)

So far in 4 weeks 3 times a week I have gained good muscle feel and lost a bit of weight.

Now to dial in my diet and ill be back to how I was (pics in my gallery)

that is why powerlifters do like 4 reps for mass and people all about striations/definition/hardness do the 10 rep thing. the body works in mysterious ways
