Crunching sound from shoulder...

Well this really freaked me out yesterday. I had never done barbell military before, but I tried em yesterday with my training partner. It was going good, I liked the feel of em, but my partner, who was standing behind like any good spotter would, said he heard a grinding sounds commin from one of my shoulders, I believe it was my right shoulder. I didn't feel any pain or even hear it, but he was convinced that it was comming from my shoulder. He said it was like a buncha clicks that sounded like someone grinding pepper. I continued with the rest of my workout and never heard of felt anything, could this be a precursor to an injury or should I just not worry about it?

Id say you have some scar tissue on one your tendons running into your shoulder... possibly your bicep tendon... it doesn't necessarilly hurt, as my tendons are covered... but it can potentially cause problems... go check out a deep tissue massage therapist... For me, going is like going to get regular oil changes on my car... He/she will break down scar tissue so you can function better.... even if you don't hurt, In hind sight, I wish I knew about it a couple of years ago when my shoulders started clicking... it would have prevented me from having to take close to 2 years off serious training....

PS: My shoulder was absolutely fucked for 2 years and over 7 different dr's agreed.... I finally found out about deep tissue massage and my shoulder is like 99% better... turns out I had rediculous amounts of scar tissue in my shoulder and all over my tendonds.

Thanks

how would i get scar tissue? ive never injured my shoulders

slight wear and tear. overhead movements can cause some work to be done on those tendons, AC joint and shoulder capsule.

but i used to be hella lazy, so i didnt do a whle lot of work with my arms, hehe. i dunno, ill try some overhead db press nad see if it makes any sound

Sounds like the beginnings of an impingement syndrome. Been there, done that. Change over to using dumbells as much as possible for your upperbody movements. And start incorporating some sort of direct external rotator strengthening movements like Lying L Flys into your training if you don't already do so. Otherwise take the gamble of ending up having to take the path of recovering from a major shoulder injury like so many others have, including myself.

my physio told me that a clicking shoulder is a sign of weak rotator cuffs. They cant make the smooth movement so they are forced to click the shoulder around.

Maybe start to consider adding rotator cuff exercises into your workout to prevent an almost inevitable problem with bb.

lying l flies?

Get a light dumbell. Lie down on your left side on a flat bench with the dumbell in your right hand right arm bent 90 degrees with upper arm close up to your right side. Dumbell should be held fairly parallel to your body like holding a baseball bat. While keeping the upper arm close to your body, raise and lower the dumbell from in front of your body to right around perpendicular to your body vertical from your side. Then just do the all the opposite for your left rotator. Sorry if it was confusing, but that's the best I can explain it. Good luck.
