Cruises, who's been on em?

Looking to go middle of December for 3-4 nights.

when's best time to book?

where's best place to go that time of year?

travel agent or online is better? (convience and price)

any advice is good...

what were your experiences on them?

A guy I work with just came back from one. He is so refreshed and relaxed. I give him a week and he'll be stressed out again.

i went with an agent once, and used expeida the other time

online is better

it was not the swakiest, nicest vacation i've been on, but its fun. You wont be bored. You wont rest, and the staterooms suck basically. No matter how much you upgrade, you wont have much space. It wont be a relaxing vacation if thats what you are looking for. You have to be nonstop doing something because your room sucks that much you wont want to be in it unless you are sleeping.

Go to travelzoo.com and look around there. They have great sales all the time.

When to go? Well you can be assured that 3-4 day cruises will most likely depart on something like a Tuesday (though some exceptions). Might as well take a week, spend another $200 and go longer.

Where to go? Where do you like? What do you like? Warm weather, the Eastern Caribb (Virgin Islands, etc..), Western Caribb (Mexico, etc.), Costa Rica (very active vacation with hiking through rain forest, riding the ziplines through the jungle, etc..)

I posted about a friend of mine that does this. Travels with old ladies as their dance partner. Makes top $$$ too.
 
How are the months that he suggested (December) in terms of weather risk in those places?

anything with warm weather in those spots are going to have good weather. great weather. the "rain" season for the caribb is usually the summer months.

where are you located? that can be a bigger help in planning where you have to leave from.

You can learn ballroom dancing in about 3 months.

It's nice. You do whatever you want during the day as most of them never want to leave the ship and have to take their senior naps. At night you sit around laughing at their stories you have already heard a thousand times until she tells you "now we must dance" just to show you off to her old bridge cronies and gossip hags.
 
Princess & Celebrity= mostly over 60 crowd

Royal Carribean = perfect mixture of ages and fun, clean ships, decent food

Carnival = party ships, cheap, awful food, good if you are going to get hammered on budget with the boys

Norweigen cruise line = teh suck

try to avoid those 3-4 day cruises to Nassau Bahamas, omg what a shithole

BTW if you are going to book on Royal Carribean (which I recommend after 10+ cruises), just book directly through them. The price is the same as any travel sights.

BTW when you arrive, slip your room steward 20 bucks

It goes a long way, and they'll bend over backwards for you

If the bed sucks he/she will double up your mattress, although i the past year Royal Car. has replaced all it's bedding on their fleet

You can do a Windjammer cruise too. That is a great cruise. I went on a nudist cruise with them before.

that's all you need to know..

good luck.. loved all 3 of the ones i went on, get a free upgrade, or pay for the balcony room, believe me you will enjoy the solitude and privacy of the small balcony..

oh, best advice..

layout on your bed all the clothes you are going to take, and all the money..

get rid of 1/2 of the clothes you won't need them..

and take 2x the cash..

ugly people need lovin too..

so i have heard, you see it all the time on youtube.. right up to the point i throw up..

that's one of the problems with going to public places, they allow everyone to go there..
 
I would take an ass whoopin before I went on another cruise. My biggest pet peave in the world is mass food production/serving. Makes me sick. That and not having enough control over my trip agenda.

I have been on 2 cruises - my first and last - and it was all in the same trip.

Nude 90% of the time everywhere.

You must "robe up" for dinner. And when you get a certain distance from ports. The rest of the time, as naked as you please.

The Windstar also does nudist cruises as well. But they are more expensive and a bigger ship. The Windjammer you get a seamans feel to the cruise, the Windstar you get waited on hand and foot just like a normal cruise.

ALOT more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and pretty much has to be done in August (he's looking for Dec)

And what is the point - you can fly to Alaska and do the same trips as day cruises and be back having toddies at the hotel in the evening. Plus you can book your own fishing trips in the Cook Inlet or have planes drop you off at some remote cabin for a few days and again still be able to hook it back to you hotel when you want.
 
I have went on about 10 cruises and I think it's the best deal in the world! I gain like 10 lbs everytime! I have never went in December thought but like AAP said just hit the year round warm area cruises. I am not saying you like to do any illegal stuff but you'll get offered all kinds of goodies from people at the ports and I use to get some stuff while partying and I use to even bring stuff on the ships but I made the mistake of bringing a used dugout back and the dog hit my bag it was in! Not fun at all spending two nights in jail over that crap! So if you bring anything or buy anything do it all on the ship and don't carry anything off ever! That cost me some serious money to get out of.
 
I can't really do the last minute stuff cuz I live in the midwest and then I'd save on cruise but get fucked on airfare
