Crown Heights riots anniversary
Here is the real story guys.
I was the third cop on the scene when the call came over. I was housing and we were looking for food. When we got there EMS was already on the scene and there was one NYPD patrol car. They already moved the first kid from the street and put him into the ambulance. A second EMS truck pulled up and they were getting out.
I noticed there was tranny fluid coming from under the car that turned out to be blood after the second EMS crew pulled the kid from under. The car was wedged between the concrete stoop and the wall. We moved the car manually so they could pull the kid out.
By this time a crowd started gathering. It was more on looking then anything. The Jewish run ambulance left and the fist EMS truck left. The second EMS truck was still prepping.
About 10 min passed and there was a large crowd of on lookers. I was in the middle of the crowd talking to them. No one had a problem with my partner or me that night. But on the outskirts NYPD started lining up. Then someone must have given the order for bats and helmets. The crowd was NOT inflamed. They were voicing their opinions. Remember I was in the middle of them still talking. No one showed any aggression toward me. They were just yelling about how it shouldn’t have happened to children.
Here is where it gets ugly. A NYPD Lieutenant decided to walk into the crowd. Places his baton at arms length to get some distance from the crowd. Tells them to go home. You don’t walk into a crowd and tell them to go home like they are children. One guy decided to tell the lieutenant that he was not going home. This is the same guy who just was re-convicted and sentenced last week.
Before long the lieutenant and him were in an argument about respect for each other. They were chest to chest. The lieutenant kept on saying, “What are you going to do?” “Do something don’t just stand there”. So, he yells out to the crowd that is already appalled by the lieutenant’s actions and says, “let’s show them what we are going to do”. About 15 guys and the original guy run from the crowd and down the street.
That marked the beginning of the crown heights riots.
I told IAB about it and they did not want to hear it. Told people in the NYPD and I was basically told to shut up.
