Which should I get? I've heard some of my biking friends say that women love a man on a crotch rocket but I'm a bit partial to something like a Honda Nighthawk. Decisions, decisions

If you go with a sport bike:
Aprilia RSV Mille R
MV Agusta F4 SPR
Ducati 916

If you want an upright riding bike:
Ducati Monster 900
Moto Guzi Jackal or Centauro

I personally would go with the "crotch rocket". The 600 series is where it's at. Look at the Suzuki GSXR 600, Yamaha R6, I personally like those two and for a starter bike they have way more power than you need and great handling. Women like these better than Nighthawk style bikes unless you get a Hog which a whole other ball game. Go check them out, sit on them rock them around and see what fits your body style better. You'll see what I mean when you get on. Have fun.

Having been to Sturgis several times, 90% of the Harley chicks are F'ing NASTY.

Don't buy a bike for chicks. Buy one because it's a bike you like, that rides well and for the joy of riding a bike. Or because you live in the Bay Area and traffic sucks :)

Nasty??? Man you were hanging in the wrong spots in Sturgis bro . There are nasty woman everywhere but the woman I met were damn hot bro, magazine hot.

I'm not buying it strictly for women. However, women could be a factor in which bike I buy.

Trust me, if you think you're going to score chicks by being a bike owner, you are sadly mistaken.

My family owns a bar in Belle Fourche SD, so I get to Sturgis about every other year. I stand by my statement, 90% of Harley Mamma's are NASTY.

Most of the Magazine hot girls out there are for photo shoots for magazines.

But I do agree, ugly girls are everywhere. And there are some good looking ladies at Sturgis. But Sturgis is a serious Bar-Flay trap, some fugly Hos are there for bike week.

Fucka slow ass twin. Go w/a zx9r or gsxr 750.

Yes bikes are similar to women in one way... You find the right one and you'll want to keep it and her forever!

This is not something you can do with a crotch rocket.
Ever seen a vintage sport bike... very, very few!

Seen many many vintage Harley's and Indians!

Just added more neon to mine and the looks I get.... You can't imagine!

Harley's are waaaaaay overpriced, IMO. They look good and sound cool but they're not worth the cash.

Crotch rockets are cool if you like to go really, really fast. :D

Hey Taps, What other bike can you order that is worth more money when you get it as to when you bought it!

Jesse James west coast choppers are cool.......about $75,000.00. RADAR

You don't see alot of "vintage sport bikes" because sport bikes are about "progression". If you're riding them right (HARD!!!) they won't make it past 5yrs. much less 20.
However my first bike was an old KZ which BTW has made a comback as the ZRX.

Harley's are over rated, just a throw back to the good Ol days. Nostalgia is all they're good for. If Harley wasn't charging 50k for the VR1000 maybe I could give'em some respect for at least trying to be up with the times. Its a simple matter of math IMO.

minion, by the vr1000 I believe you're talking about the vrod, and they're selling those things for 16k.......cheapest "brand new" harley I've ever seen. If I bought a hog it would definitely have to be a vrod, only harley made with some real "muscle" to it. Plifter, don't buy a crotch rocket, they'll get you killed. Get a cruiser, same ability to pick up chicks.....and they'll be more comfortable on the back of a cruiser than on the back of a CR.

True about over priced. But I got my Harley for 4200 spent about 1300 making it real sweet. I have had it for over three years and still can sell it for 5000. Vice if I had bought a little 600 street bike for 6000 id be real lucky to selll it for 3000. Now which is over priced.

But my next bike is going to be a 'busa. That bike is bad ass. Top speed over 185 stock. 1/4 mile time in 10 seconds. All for less than 11000.

IMO Twins are not the bike to have (unless its the TL1000) They are for going slow with alot of weight on them. lol I think of them as a Mack truck and a crotch rocket as a sports car. I have a crotch rocket YZFr6. I know when I get older I'll get a touring bike but since im not old yet I'll stick to the rockets.

PS I dont mean to offend the Harley Guys so dont get bent about it.

I've always gotten a huge kick out of these Harley 'tards that dump a TON of cash into their bikes, trying to squeeze out some more HP. Some of these guys start to think that they are possessing some serious horsepower. They have more money in their "performance" mods than I spent on my whole GSX-R 750, and I can still out run 'em, out brake 'em and out corner them like they are standing still.
You can't polish a
turd, fellas. :)

A 113 cubic inch S&S engine shoved in a rollin chasis will blow away any crotch rocket in a drag race. Out corner it? Hell no. I also don't fit too well on a crotch rocket. At 6'3" and 245 lbs. (lean) a 600cc crotch rocket probably couldn't get me up a 10% grade let alone accomodate my size.

In short, you can buy a High School kid's bike or you can ride what MEN do. Nuff said.

ouch!!! Lex, I don't those guys are trying to compete with sport bikes. Let's be fair, cruisers are about style and comfort while sport bikes are about "pure" performance. I'll admit that I find it a "tad" ridiculous to see somebody drop 20g's on a bike and dam near that much or more on performace mods. That's why I have an affinity for the japanese cruisers like the magna/valkyrie/vtx1800. I personally have the magna, and by this time next year, for less than $1500, I should be at least "approaching" some of the sport bike 1/4 times.......I already do 12 flat, which for a cruiser is pretty good. I have to say though about Harleys, the Vrod might be changing my mind about them. Harley is FINALLY starting to make musclebikes which rock completely stock. I just wish they would have gone with a 4 instead of juicing up a twin, they could have gotten the same performance and been able to lower the price of the bike......even though at 17g's it's really not that bad for a hog.

Most harley riders that put a lot of cash into their bikes, want to be unique. All those sport bikes look the same to me.....

But if you want to look like"one of the crowd"... Then go for it!

I'd rather stand out as I've always done!

there is no point in trying to change someones mind. if you're into sport bikes then thats fine, if you like hogs, good for you. dont be a sales man and try to convince each other that one is better then the other. thast why there are choices in life, so people get what they want. i personaly like sport bikes. i am a speed freak and you really cant fuck with a stock gsx-r1100.

BigPhysicsBastard, check my links. I'm talking about the VR1000 by Harley Davidson, not the V-rod. Its their entry into the World Super Bike racing. They sell the VR1000 by request at the cost of 50k.

An interesting point about Harley Davidson is most of their revenue is generated by accessories. Harley is ALL about America and nostalgia. Which isn't why I ride motorcycles. If I wanted to go slow I would get a Honda ST1100 or a Yamaha FJR1300, and have an extra 5k or so in my pocket.

YOU GUYS GOT IT ALL WRONG!!! GO TO WWW.AMERICANIRONHORSE.COM AND THE TEJAS IS MY NEW THING. LOVE THE BIKE AND PLIFTER DONT BUY A BIKE FOR THE BITCHES CAUSE IF THATS THE CASE YOU WILL NEVER STAY WITH THEM. GET WHAT YOU WANT AND LIKE IT. STAY WITH THE BUDGET YOU WANT AND RIDE. I HAVE HAD ALL KINDS OF BIKE FROM RICE TO THE NEW ONE THE TEJAS. LOVED THEM ALL AND ITS WHAT I WANT SO FUCK EVERYONE ELSE. AND TO ANSWER THE QUESTION OF RIDIG FRAME BIKES......THEY ARE NOT AS BAD AS YOU THINK.

too many responses to read, sorry

I like the idea of building a rigid. Get a frame and go loopy with the drive train. Get a Merch 120 engine and a 6spd trans(OD). Springer front end and a 240 rear tire. Run the cables and wiring harness inside the rame rails and you have a seriously clean rocket that is comfy to ride with the big rear tire. Go babay

Just thought about this, Harley is no longer in the Superbike races. They pulled the pin on the whole project. I guess it lost enough $$$ and desided to look at diffrent ways to spend $$ on. I feel sorry for the racers though, there top rider was on a two year contract.

i have a harley and would actually like a sportbike too, for the speed, Harley=comfort sportbike=speed. get the bike for yourself, thwere are =hot women who like both kinds of bikes.

boss - that Tejas is one BADASS machine. You are a man after my own heart.

Kahn - would you PLEASE tell these Rice Rocket advocates that a Merch 120" engine will blow them off the road?!

FRANK I LOVE MY TEJAS, AND YES IT IS A BADASS MACHINE. THE SLAMMER IS GOOD TOO ITS BASICALLY A TEJAS WITH SHOCKS.

I like the looks of the rigid frame so much I think I would choose the Tejas any day. I have somewhat retro taste.

What does your paint look like?

basskiller & ryker77...very good points. :)

If you've got the cash just sitting around, then yeah a harley is a good investment. My friends uncle bought his for $12,000 CDN a few years ago and tricked it out pretty good. The damn thing is worth more than my car now. :) He told me he gets offers in the mid 20's all the time...

Sounds like plifter just wants something to ride around on, so a harley is probably not a good idea for him. He'd be better off with an old honda or something similar.

FRANK......... PAINT IS ALL CUSTOM, I ORDERED IT A FLAT GRAY AND HAD CUSTOM AIR GUN WORK TO IT. THEIR CUSTOM PAINT IS NOT CUSTOM CAUSE I AND THEN YOU CAN ORDER THE SAME PAINT CODE. NOW IS THIS CUSTOM PAINT? NO, CUSTOM IS SOMETHING OF YOUR OWN AND NOW MINE WILL NEVER SHOW UP WITH THE GUY DOWN THE STREET LET ALONE ANY WHERE. SO I NOW HAVE CUSTOM, TRUE CUSTOM.

I won't be riding a Harley, way out of the budget. I'm looking for a used bike that's pretty cheap. My dad bought an old Honda Magna for $800. It needed a little engine work but dad had it running within 3 days. Whatever I get probably won't be more than $2000.

Anyone who knows a thing about bikes understands that Harleys have nothing to do with speed. thats the furthest thing a hog rider looks for. its all about the cruise.

No prob Rizzo, Merch makes a 131, too. Its a big bore short stroke motor that revs completely different than a Harley. Harley went the wrong way with their engines in my mind. Merch's make torque that jap stuff can't make. Those rigids aren't all that heavy compared to other bikes. Plifter-I'd go for an older Magna if you want to be frugal. They are the original speed bikes
