Creatine and caffeine...

I haven't used creatine in a really long time, but back when I was everyone said not to take it with caffeine. So, would it be ok to still have 2 cups of coffee a day as long as I wasn't taking the creatine right then? I don't plan on using it within an hour or two of drinking coffee. I think I take in enough water to compensate for the diuresis caused by the caffeine, so that shouldn't be a problem.

I heard that caffeine can affect the absorption of creatine, or something like that, so yeah, just space them out a few hours and you should be OK.

200mgs of caffine has a half life of 10 hours. That is same amount of caffine in a vivarin

I drink a boat load of coffee in the morning and take creatine after my workout which puts me a few hours apart, but I know there is still caffine in me to some degree. My body responds well to creatine regardless so maybe there is a problem with having creatine and coffee in the gut at the same time. If thats the case, you only need to wait several minutes, not 2 hours.

muscles fill with creatine and in turn will make them retain water, and caffien is a diruretic...counter acts your creatine totally

Creatine does more than hydrate your muscle cells. Granted, the diuretic effect of caffeine will dehydrate you, but if you drink a little extra water (12 oz. for every cup of coffee) it should offset the diruetic effect. I don't believe there are any studies to prove that caffeine affects creatine. To be safe you could space them by 30 min. or so.

What?

Caffeine wouldn't effect intracellular water. There are zero studies that support the ingestion of caffeine having a counteraction with creatine effectiveness.

hahaha, lol.....dude, i have read like 20 studies in the past month on it, bc i was curious about all the talk about the subject.....i would research a little more.....i must have read dozens of articles and studies backin up exactly what i just said

Please, enlighten us with some SUBSTANTIAL studies...

If anyone has anymore imput on this subject, I'd like to hear about it. I, for one, pound back the java pre-workout. I also take 5 grams of creatine pre and post workout---I'd like to know if I'm pissing out my creatine. Seems to work for me, the creatine.
But DAMN I'd hate to give up my coffee!!!:(

I used to drink about 12 cups of coffee a day strong. I mean like mud strong. I cycled creatine and put 10 lbs of water on in a weeks time. I drank water all day long while on my creatine cycle. I would wait a few hours in between creatine drinks before downing a pot of Java. When i wasn't cycling creatine i noticed a huge difference in my recovery, strength and sworeness. So i know the creatine was working. Its the best supp i've ever taken. For me, caffeine had no effect on the aborbstion. I had to stop drinking caffeine entirely now because i was always hot. heat would radiate out of my collar and my hands would sweat. It actually braught a case of hyperhydrosis on. I've been off caffeine for about 2 weeks now and man what a temperature change.

I wouldn't worry about 2 cups a day bro. Seriously! Thats nothing. How about a pot in one sitting? Then start worrying.

Scaggs.
