For those of you that are Cox@Home customers, if you receive an upgrade kit be prepared to encounter a LOT of trouble when installing. I have been on hold with these assholes for oven an hour - and this is supposed to be a phone number dedicated to the conversation.

Do NOT try to do the speed patch from the website - this conflicts with the CD Rom that they send you. If you need to be connected to the internet and can not deal with a 12 - 36 hour black out of service have an alternative way to connect in place before you try to convert.

It's best to call the toll free number about 45 minutes before you start the switch so that you won' go stri crazy waiting. I have tried seventeen times to get the damn thing converted and each time it gives me an error "Can not establish connections to the Service Broker. Please contact CSR". Followed by "Exception occurewhile trying to perform clients request" That is what you get everytime you attempt to get your new password and verify your authentication code.

Good fucking luck, I am going to switch to a T1 connection and eliminate this bullshit.

See, thisis going to require a preface...

I just cooked fried tofu with Chinese eggplant, chicken and bean sprouts in a nice plum sauce. I was enjoying a robust mouthful when I saw your post... the only image . sound that came to mind was Eric Cartman from Southpark ..... which explains why I am now picking out bean sprouts from the keyboard.... you bastard.

"sawwwwwweeeeeeetttttttttt"

Cartman: I'm a sexy bitch!
Kyle: Cartman, your a fat ass!

You don't need to install any software. If your already using DHCP then your already on thier new network.

Go to command line and type "ipconfig /all". If the IP address is set to 68.x.x.x or something like that your on the new network. The old @home network used the 24.x.x.x block.

All you need to do is go to cox's support site (http://support.cox.net I believe) and change your email addresses over.

The POP and email addresses are not working in SoCal yet. So when I do try to set up anything with the new network I get error after error. Getting online takes about 20 minutes now - and it's supposed to be a cable connection. Between the errors on their end, the software fucking up and not being able to get your new password from the site since you have no internet connection... the whole thing sucks.

Cox@Home knew this was going to happen - what did they do - nothing. They didn;t hire any new people to handle to change over. As usual, they sat on their asses and did nothing for the customers.

Been there done that. Longest time on hold was 1 hr 49 min. Top it off at that time they switched me to another department and the connection went dead.

Can't comment on thier email, I don't use it.

I do know they hired an assload more support people. They had an article in the Register about it.

When I asked the rep he said they hired a few people but were counting on a majority of the people to use the website. The thing is - the website doesn;t allow you to access your information or get a new password and once you start the process you lose your connection to the internet.

Oh the wonders of the internet!

CALL THE CALPUC they regulate Cable, Telco, Gas, Electric. and probably a bunch of other stuff. That is the Cali state agency that you talk to to bring down some weight on Cox.

It is pointless. SDGE / Sempra laid this huge "conserve energy" thing on use for over a year. They claimed that there wasn't enough power - then it comes out that they had shut down 50% of the power plants for "repairs". Repairs that never happened because there wasn't anything wrong.

Every single utility in Califormia is screwed up. Pacific Bell was bought out by another company two months ago. SDGE is managed by Sempra in Northern California and they are clueless. Cox - the name says it all cox=cocks.

If I had any outdoor skills beside hunting I would move out to the desert and take over one of the abandoned Army underground dwellings. Then again, I would have to fight the meth heads. Fucking tweekers.
