Couple of PR's from tonight.

Standing push press.

320 x3 reps pr (previous best was 2)
360 x1 weight pr (previous best was 340)
370 xfailx2 couldn't lock out either rep. I'll get it next time.

I'm steadily creeping towards an over 400lb push press which I plan on having by years end at the latest. Thankfully tonight was a good night to help offset last night's shitty performance.

Cheers,
Scotsman

I weigh right about 300lbs right now. Didn't plan on going that heavy so I didn't bring my camera, I'll get some vid next time though.

Damn those are some big numbers. OHP is way more impressive to me than benching (years of watching WSM and all the greats throwing up those big ass logs / implements and line-outs for rugby).

Hey Scotsman...I have been stuck at 185 lbs on the standing press for a few weeks. I always like to get at least 5 reps before I increase the weight, and I have been failing after 4. I have been doing 4x5 for my sets, but I am thinking of switching to something like 1x8, 1x5, 1x3, 1x2 so that I can get through this road block. Do you think that is a reasonable approach?

Congrats big guy. Very impressive numbers. Your pec tear does not affect you on OHP?

I'm gonna catch you. I'm at 255. Here I come. :-)

Hey why not add in my new celebration. No where near his lol, but, for me its progress. 5'10, weigh 185. Just hit my new bench max at 250. First rep was nice n clean, went for 2nd. ALMOST got it up but the triceps gave up half way threw.

Props bud. Every PR is an achievement. Our biggest competition is with ourselves to be the best that we can be. If you follow that in all aspects of your life you will find happiness and success. We are not all genetically predisposed to be bodybuilders, elite powerlifters, or olympic athletes but we can all push ourselves to find the own elite level within ourselves.

wow thats alot of weight scotsman, talk about brute strength damn. being a push press do you use alot of technique and leg drive or do you just throw it up there.

I think that's a great approach. Sometimes you need to change up your scheme to add weight for a while then go back to a 5 rep or so workout.

Here's what my whole press routing looked like
Strict press
Bar x10
95 x10
135 x8
190 x8 (Started using the 2.5lb collars on each side)
230 x5
280 x4 (stared the push presses)
320 x3
360 x1
370 fail
230 x4 strict.

Thanks D. It's a bit of both, I try to make sure my shoulders are super strong by doing a lot of strict pressing motions, but I also really work on the push press technique. I dip about 4" and then use the flex in the bar (which isn't much on a pl bar) to help accelerate it off my chest/shoulders. Then I really start pushing hard and will dip a couple of inches to finish the lift. So it's a super fast motion but nothing like a full olympic jerk.

Hmmmm... even this old dog can learn a new trick. I just googled and watched a vid. I always thought of this move as part of clean and jerk. I don't really do oly lifts... never really learned how and would need to practice a lot. I've been doing a strict press not push press in my shoulder training. Gonna have to give it a try.

I'll bump my vid log but I have a few vids of me doing push press in there.

Oh and no the pec tear doesn't effect OHP, I was lifting overhead two days after the tear.

When are you going to come to Colorado? Seriously.

And this from someone who does lunges and step-ups yet claims to be a powerlifter.

I'm more of a strongman sugartits, and I have done calves three times this year, how many step-ups and lunges have you done.

I'll believe it when you arrive and smack me. I thought we already covered the fact that you have difficulty coming alone. :qt:
