cops...they didnt protect or serve last nite

i go to school at penn state...there have been sooo many sexual assualts and rapes there this year, its been a huge issue...i have this girl im real interested in, and she sleeps over(or was going to)...we've been up doin whatever all nite, and at like 4:30, we hear her phone vibrating saying she has a message...her parents who were coming up the next day at 11 were now coming up at 8, so i had to get her home...cops sit outside my building all nite and do paper work...i ask this cop at 4:30am if we can get a ride across campus, in light of all that was happening(really, it was cold as fuck, and late and a far ass walk) and she denied me a ride...said she wasnt a taxi...do you guys agree this is fucked up? the cop was not doing ANYTHING...when i got back 45 min. later, sitting in the same damn spot staring out the window!

It's probably their departmental procedure not to give just anyone a ride, for officer safety reasons, nothing personal... usually the only ones who get rides are sitting in the backseat with a pair of hooks on....

The way cops work, is they have to be in specific zones -- so if a call of a murder happens down the street, the dispatch already knows their lcoation and bangs them in. If they're off playing taxi and get there 15 seconds late, and someone is dead -- TRY explaining that to your station boss and the judge!

a few years back when I lived in cincinnati a buddy and I were eating at mcdonald's and we were sitting right across from a couple of cops who were obviously eating too..anyhow,over thier walkie talkie and/or inter com thing we could hear the typical dispatch chatter...then we hear over their link "we have a black guy in a tank top walking down such and such street with a shot gun"...and this street was about 2 blocks over and these guys didn't bat an eye,just kept munching away...guess it wasn't their zone..can't blame em though..tank tops and shot guns are a fairly scary combo

yes, penn state does have an escort service, but they probably woulda sent some little indian kid thats 5'6 170lbs...the escort service they have is just if you need someone to walk home with you, you can call...i did a fine job escorting her, but the point was we were trying to avoid walking home in the freezing cold at 4:30am...but we called a taxi, and they didnt show after a half an hour...and i explained this to the cop...i know the cop probably wasnt obligated to give us a ride(it literally woulda been a two minute ride, but half hour walk bc of distance,and the snow)...i understand what you guys are saying about needing to stay there in case something went down, but if i woulda walked by with a beer can, i woulda been arrested, and she'd be doing paper work for an hour

I think the point is that you didnt really need her........if you had really needed her I'm sure she would have responded.

In your other posts you seem more concerned about the amount of time and hassle that she could have saved you than anything else.

Because if you need a cop it is usually obvious........oh and you would usually ask for help. Cops are not psychic.

Besides, your first post says you asked for a lift in light of the crimes on campus........you asked for a lift not for a type of help that you would normally go running to a cop for. I would have been suprised if they did give you a lift.

for the walk home, it turns out we didnt need the help, and i knew we wouldnt but it woulda been convenient...but say i was just some srawny ass dude, walking with a hot chick at 4am...the fact that a situation could have arouse very easily...that seems to be a good enough reason for the cop to give me a two minute lift...or say i wasnt a gentleman and didnt spend an hour out of my nite/morning to walk her home...so she would of had to walk home by herself?

i think the whole point of it comes down to the chances of a women running into a problem with an assaulter (is that a word?) goes down a good bit if she is with any male reguardless of his size. the same is probally true if she was with another female but probally not to such an extent
