contest diet that effects the brain in men...

Why is it that when a man is on a contest diet, it totally starts to affect him in every way about 7 weeks in? My b/f is doing a show Dec 22 and this is his first and everything was great until about 2 weeks ago when he really withdrawn himself from me and it has affected him in every way possible. He's hoping that after the show he'll bounce back to his ol'self. Is it possible or just a lost cause to stick it out? He keeps saying that it's the diet and he doesn't like himself this way and he trys to tell me it's not me, so please understand, blah, blah, blah.

Has this happened to anyone else? Need some insight on this.
Thanks

Cutting for a competition is possibly the single hardest thing to do for a bodybuilder. They remove so many key nutrients that were once part of their everyday lifestyle for a pretty serious duration of time. Lack of simple sugars and various other carbs in the blood affect the brain...aggressive, fatigued, on edge, snappy, sleeplessness, depression, etc., etc.

Just work with him, your support will help him get through it and make things a touch better.

Good luck!

cutting diet

My cutting diet for my first show almost killed me. I was seeing double and I could barely move. It was aweful. The last two days I didn't even drink any H2O and my kidneys started hurting. Cutting for a show is probably the most difficult thing a person can do their body, and it shows a lot of inner strength if a person can actually do it. Give your BF the space he needs right now. He will come back, don't worry. But he needs to go to a pretty freaky strange place right now. Hang in there with him.

Razor hit the nail on the head. During the dieting phase, the body is deprived of essential fats and carbs, along with other elemts that are key to "normal" metabolic processes. Human brain activity starts to become less efficient when fat levels in the body are at a minimum.

Contest prep and diet does not have to be this way. Dont let yourself get too OUT of SHAPE between shows. up the complex carbs on diet, most important factors are protien intake and caloric level .
If you insist on going low carb, particularly if you are not on schedule add in some coconut oil.

Just get through the next couple of months and he'll be back to normal. I usually am a lot more loving and caring after a few pizzas.

Contest dieting will do that to you.

It makes you grouchy and not fun to be around. Add some androgens and some stimulants and you have a walking time bomb.

Low carbs makes it hard to focus and to think.

He will be back to normal when he starts eating again.

He should still make a conscious effort to be a good bf to you. If you are understanding of his state then it will be that much easier for both of you.

Thanks guys for all of your input.
I know I've been trying to understand, but it's pretty hard when it hits.

Thanks again-I'll try to hang in there
