Congress just gave away another $48 Billion to fight AIDS

You can't argue the merits of your case, so you call me a paralegal, a bad attorney, and single! :lmao:

Wow, all three are TERRIBLE things, huh.

PS -- I'm not single anymore, and when I was it was by choice because the dating pool is full of leftovers much like you. I passed the bar the first time and attended undergrad and law school on academic scholarships. I've been gainfully employed as an attorney for 8 years and only lost 1 case in that time. Yeah, but you are so clever. Try again.

You've said all that before, but the thing is nobody really believes you.

Just sayin.

LOL...look it up genius.

all you have to do is go to kybar.org and type in first name heather in the lawyer locater. I'll come right up and it will be obvious which one I am. Of course you still haven't addressed the merits of my argument, so you just insult me by saying I'm not an attorney. Clearly, I am, which only further makes you look like a dumb ass. So, please get back to telling us what those children born with AIDS did to deserve to die...

Infectious diseases are never going to be controlled. They are getting stronger and stronger and the human immune system is getting weaker and weaker.
Cancer is more common now that it was 30 yrs ago. More and more viruses are killing us etc....
We cannot stop it, even with research! We can delay it, but never stop it. Illness is BIG business, and that's it!

My friend is a cancer researcher (She's the one with me in the cougar pics) and from her mouth to my typing "Cancer research is bullshit" The funding goes to keep research dr's employed.

She so desperatly wanted to cure leukemia, this is why she got into cancer research. She was diagnosed 10 yrs ago with Leukemia and told she had 3 months to live.
She became the spokesperson for Novartis and was into the guts of cancer research. She was disgusted by it all. It's all about the all mighty buck and not curing people. She stepped away from Novartis. She now has her PHD in cancer research and is is going to go work for a job that is totally not related to research.

here is her story. I've posted this before

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society - Life Mosaic

By the way, she was a high school drop out when she was diagnosed. Her illness made her want to go back to school

Funding has nothing to do with curing people. Without illness, there would be less people employed

So wait...if 98% of the funding is private, that means that no progress is being made whatsoever, Lyme disease is wiping out entire civilizations, and George W Bush and I are flying around in crop dusters spraying the disease over minority and gay neighborhoods, right?

That's what you meant, right?

There is no progress being made with lyme disease.......that is correct.
Bush has lyme disease actually and it was kept silent until it was leaked.

White House hid Bush's Lyme Disease | Capitol Hill Blue

I strongly disagree.

I'm looking for a link now but I had a study mailed to me with a bulletin to get people to "walk for the cure" fundraiser. Anyway, this study was specific to childhood cancers. It showed the survival rates for children in the 70's compared to now. Many of the survival rates had gone from as low as 5 or 10% to as high as 90% That is quite an improvement, even if it isn't a cure! It takes time. Your friend shouldn't be so discouraged. Even if she doesn't cure it, the research for a cure is cumulative. When a cure is found, her research will be part of the greater body of work that lead to the cure.

EDIT: Here is a link to one study that addresses the increase in survival rates in childhood luekemia. http://books.nap.edu/openbook.php?record_id=11259&page=36

Plus, I'm all for keeping research scientists employed and working toward the betterment of mankind. Not every researcher is going to get the big breakthrough or the shining moment, but they should feel proud that their work went toward the betterment of mankind. Researchers read the work of other published scientists and build on that body of work.
