Confucianism shows that 'God' is ultimately obsolete

I will amend my thesis. Confucianism shows that the idea of 'God' is ultimately unnecessary.

You should amend this statement to:

"Confucianism shows that MY idea of 'God' is ultimately unneccessary."

You obviously believe that God (or the concept thereof), serves only to provide us with moral guidelines with which to conform. However, to others, this is not what God is. I don't look to God to as the maker of rules and the founder of obedience, I look to him as the creator of all things, and as the savior of the world.

There are no precepts in Confucianism that lend themselves to disproving or weakening this concept.

The only thing you have accomplished here is note that practitioners of Confucianism do not need God to respect life and each other. This does nothing to render God "unneccesary."

Your belief that 'God' is a savior is unnecessary. People can live in peace and harmony. Law and order is necessary for people to live in peace and harmony.

It doesn't matter what definition of 'God' is used.

I'm not sure I follow. When you say unnecessary, unnecssary to what? Law and order?

Yeah, I agree, the fact that I believe in God does not make me more likely to obey laws. This does not make my belief in God unnecessary.

Peace and harmony is necessary for life to exist in any productive fashion. Law and order is necessary for peace and harmony. No one *needs* to believe in any idea of 'God' to have law and order, as is demonstrated by Chinese history.

Ok. The presence of peace and harmony in the absence of God does prove the non-existence of God.

Huh? I think you meant "doesn't" as opposed to "does".

Anyway, I would also like to add that people in China are also *happy* without any belief in 'God'.

They are? How do you know? And why do Chineese people convert to Chrisiainity so quickly when we smuggle Bibles and the Gospel to them. Their govt hates Christianity why because the govt wants untimate control of its constituents not God.

Because I lived in South China for 6 months and Hong Kong for a year. There are happy, normal and sad people everywhere in the world.

Chinese people don't convert to Christianity quickly if at all. Where did you get that?

I will say that most Chinese are uneducated in the existing arguments for and against the existence of God. However, they are well versed in Confucian, Taoist and Buddhist thought.

I think I may agree with you that the Beijing govt. does not like Christianity because it represents western influence. Almost every government craves conformity, too.

Yeah, I meant "doesn't."

That's fine. I don't believe that you can't be happy without God either, but this does not render God "unnecessary." You're not convincing me of anything.
