Confession - I love Body Pump :)

So I have spent YEARS lifting heavy, adjusting my split, my exercises, etc ..... drop sets, negatives, forced reps, etc ...... YEARS. And hell yeah, it has worked. I have certainly gained muscle since my time as a cardio bunny. :)

But, *sigh*, I have grown tired of that. Not only that, I really stopped seeing results. I really went through a "fitness crisis". I hated working out, hated dieting, hated everything about fitness. I was done. I was totally ready to quit the gym - and just get fat - who gives a fuck?

But, I knew I couldn't do that. I am too vain and I want to be healthy. :) So I totally have re-vamped what I do at the gym. And what I do is SO not what people here do now .... in fact ....direct opposite. :) I have to come clean......... :)

I started taking Body Pump classes ... and LOVE them. I am addicted. Not only do I love them, but I am seing results again. I take a class 2-3 times a week. It is a full body workout - and it kicks my ass every time. I end up tired, sweaty and sore - all over.

Since it is full body, and we all know I don't lift weights for legs, I always lighten the weight and really work on going low and focused on form.

I know everyone here is very focused on lifting as heavy as possible ... but not me anymore. Yes, I still think that is what people need to do to build muscle and lose fat ..... but sometimes, change is good and NECESSARY! :)

So, there is my story. I hate lifting weights in the gym ..... machines, weights .... blech .... just give me my Body Pump and I am happy as a clam. Maybe this will change again, who knows..............

i love it as well....I think for me my favorite is Kickboxing....but Bodypump is right up there! Glad your seeing results

There is a time, place and purpose for every type of training! Hey I was doing cardio dance classes for a month. Me! Ms. No Rhythm Show Me the Mosh Pit Former Member of the KISS Army Head. Also tried PL. Also got into "core strength training". I suspect I may follow your route in some form or another as I come out of my competition thingy. I don't want to do the off-season mega beef-up after that. But rather just stay lean & "figure model-ish".

That is the basis of my workout routine now - kickboxing and body pump. Love them both.

I do kickboxing 2-3x a week, body pump 2-3 ...... and then add another 2 days of cardio, usually stepmill.

But then again, I am a certified cardio lover. I really enjoy it - esp since my gym has TVs on the equipment. :)

Kickboxing is way at the top of my list of things to get into. My current gym has a boxing ring, heavy bags & everything, but I would probably blow my back out again if I went that route right now. Another thing way high on the list is rock climbing -- there's a rock gym here that I"m looking for a free weekend to check out.

That is basically my goal. I have no desire to have a 6 pack and compete. I love the competitor look - but have no desire to have that look on ME anymore.

Speaking of core strength, I am taking a core class today at 4:30 - and am looking to add it in 1x a week.

I love my Track Breaks (I teach at a year round school, my 'summer vaca' is broken up in chunks throughout the year) - I have been on break for a couple weeks and got to go to a bunch of classes. :)

And gotcha on the Ms. No-Rhythm ...... that is me to a T! I was so born without the rhythm gene. :)

Can I tell you what really burns my toast about those cardio dance classes?? There are some BIIIIIG MAMASSSSSSSS in there and they can move like they are dancing on petite little ballet feet.

And then there's me. (LMAO ... white girls can't dance...)

If you don't know what Body Pump is, here is a link:

Sassy - I know it! My gym has a great Dance class -you learn all kinds of cool clubbing style moves ....and I see some SERIOUSLY large out of shape people and I am like "there is no way they can do this and look good" - and then, I watch them and I am 110% WRONG. They look a million times better than I would!

Oh get this .. TONITE, 7 pm, there is a CARDIO STRIPTEASE class at my gym. LMAO! I'm opting for Back Nite, but I can watch. This should be interesting. I wonder how many guys are going to be dropping weights on their toes tonite???

I have a good friend who teaches Body Pump. She keeps trying to get my ass in the class. The only thing that's stopped me is that it's an hour away.

Upper body, I'm lifting heavy. (Have to catch up with the bottom half) Lower body, I've lightened up...and I'm still sore the next day.

STAND UP AND BE PROUD!!! 100 reps per body part would make anyone tired.

Looks like you have incredible lower body muscle and shape - What were you doing for lower body? Are you genetically disposed to muscle (esp lower body)?

yes. I was always muscular - even when I didn't lift weights.

I do all the excercises you hate :D step-ups, squats, dead lifts, lunges, dips - plus some floor work. Today was leg day.

No no no .... i LOVE step-ups and lunges ...... the others, I hate. :)

Well I watched the Cardio Striptease class from the T-bar row. Interesting -- it was more or less a lot of sexy walk steps across the floor. THe guy teaching it looked like one of the guys from the TV show "Fame", but with a definite gay lilt. Interesting stuff...

Body pump sounds cool. I wonder if it's similar to cathe fredreich's workouts on fittv. SHe uses a step and a really high step and it is stepping and also weights, combined. And I don't mean the little pink 2 lb dumbells ;) These are what I do at home. It is a really good workout. :)

I have been in Body Pump only once by far but loved it. And today I´m going again :) Oh my, I´m gonna be so sore tomorrow...

After doing weights and cardio for many years I decided to try kickboxing, omg all my muscles hurt really bad for 3 days and thought I was fit...

A huge part of trying a different training approach is conditioning. I regularly get my ass kicked every time I attempt a spinning class and yet there's always a couple of tubbos, sometimes including the teacher in those classes. So "fit" is a relative word.

My gym doesn't really have any classes -- they do some, but I don't like step-aerobics....

I hope we get FitTV soon and some new Fitness Content on Video on Demand....

My parents (both over 60) do step-aerobics 3 x /week & walk 5 miles every day. They may be more fit than me...

I love walking.....walk just about everywhere....

When I first moved to Northern Virginia, straight after college, going to the gym was too expensive and too much of a hassle ..... I worked out at home.

I did all the FIRM stuff and LOVED Cathe Fredreich. SHe was an awesome step and weights instructor. This was way back in the mid 90s, so about 11 years ago. Those tapes are what got me hooked on weight lifting - before that, I was a cardio bunny ONLY.

Holy Moly - I was a machochist last night - went to the 4:30 CorePower class (60min) and then straight into the 5:30 Kickboxing class (60min). Both were taught by one of my favorite instructors. I am paying for it now!

In the Core class, we did 50-6o pushups and endless movements on the ball, off the ball, with medicine balls, etc ..... I just woke up - and my abs are screaming, same with my lower back (in a good way), and my chest and shoulders- oh, those pushups!, my inner thighs are screaming too...... From Kickboxing, my quads and booty are so sore, same with my back and biceps.

I am a very fit person - not in perfect shape, but I can certainly hold my own. But in those Core classes, I realize how weak I am in many areas. My abs are strong, but my inner thighs, hips and lower back are not very strong. Core strength isn't just about doing crunches - that only hits about 1/4th of what core strength IS.

My goal is to go to the Core class at least 1x a week..... I have a ball at home, I need to start utilizing it ...... :)

PS - I'm glad I came out of the closet. :)

Hi my name is Sassy and I'm a core training junkie. I've been addicted since November while coming off a power lifting bender.

I still do the FIRM and LOVE it. I do a different one every day. I like them so much because they flow so many different weight lifting exercises together and it keeps my heart rate up the entire workout. They really emphasise lower body.

I LOVE the FIRM ABs videos .... They kick my ass hard! I still have quite a few videos left over from when I used them .... mostly stuff that doesn't need equipment. Yoga, Boot Camp, Abs, Pilates, etc etc etc

Sounds similar. Power Barbell is probably a Body Pump knockoff - but still doing the same basic thing.

I'm going to a class in about 15 min. :) Might stay for Kickbox too, but not sure I have it in me today......

The gym I presently go to has NO CLASSES!! My old gym closed due to poor management...ie. fraud! I joined Panza Kickboxing gym near me and it is awesome. The class I do is 1hr, mostly station work w/ jumprope, med ball work, push-ups, mt. climbers, squat thrusts, bag work of course, abs, light weight bar work, and step ups. Caught myself looking at the clock b/c I was about to puke. I can run for 5 miles, but this was non-stop interval hell. It was great to move from station to station. It took me 3 days to be able to sit down w/o groaning.

Can't wait to go again!
