Hey guys just wondering how long does it take to get better for concussion!!!

My mate was training for Mma when he got knocked out and suffering concussion....

It's been 3 weeeks. He feels really weird...

Docter said he can't lift weight and trains till he gets better...

Anyone who suffered concussion or have any idea how to deal with it!!!

Pls help.

Definitely wait till you get cleared by the doc not worth risking it.

ask the doctor.. its been proven now that if you get more than 3 concussions you will suffer permanent brain damage.

thats why in the NFL you are required to retire after 3 concussions and you are not allowed back into a game after a concussion.

i've gotten 1 concussion in my life from football. but back then you just got thrown right back into the game, they didn't give a shit about you. now there are much more rules, hell they used to not let us drink water in 90 degree weather. it took a couple players dying for the state to now require water breaks

That's harsh bro!!!! No water drinks you will die from dehydration for sure!!!

Any idea how long does it take you to get recover from concussion or when can start lifting again ??

it varies depending on the severity of the concussion. could take a few weeks to many many months. there is no timetable with concussions and no two are the same. do not start any physical activity until the doctor clears you

A car ran a stop sign and hit me going 30mph (so she said). I was walking. My head ended up almost punching a hole through her windshield. My concussion was so extreme my brain shifted. (Don't know the medical term for it) I ended up with brain seizures and couldn't move my head with out getting extremely nauseous. It took me 4 months to recover to the point that I could function. It was the summer between my junior and senior years in high school. I was on anti-seizures meds for years after that.

Scans are a must. Every concussion is different and as is every person so recover time is variable. The damage done is cumulative. Unless I was a pro in sport such as football, boxing or MMA one concussion would end it for me. One concussion is one too many but I cannot stop walking. I sure do take extra care to look out for for idiots behind the wheel when I am on foot!

David Duerson, who played in the pros from 1983-1993, committed suicide in 2011 by shooting himself in the chest actually wrote that he wanted his brain examined. I think it is probable that Junior Seau committed suicide due to trauma-induced disease caused by concussions when he played football which may have resulted in depression. It is highly likely Juniour shot himself in the chest so his brain could be examinded to help others.

From personal experience, playing football I suffered a double concussion (2 small concussions equalling one VERY bad one). If he has been feeling "ify" for a couple weeks now then he had a fairly sever concussion. It took me a couple months to feel completely normal again, but I also saw a doctor three times during that period. Is he seeing a doctor?

RIP Junior Seau! (Big San Diego Chargers fan)

That is interesting though, that he shot himself in the chest. Someone comitting suicide would definetly shoot themself in the head to cause less pain. That's a good theory.

Hey bro it's been 4 weeks now. He is feeling better then before. Just getting random headaches and pressure around his head which comes and go.

He has seen doctors and they had told him it will take time and will get better own it own.
They said it takes 1 to 3 months in most cases to completely heal and feel better again!!

When he got concussion without knowing much about it, he was still engaged in physical activities like swimming and lifting which made his symptoms worst. But now he is getting better but still very moody !!

Any suggestions how to recover faster???

Yah, because swimming and lifting are intense, and increase blood flow A LOT. The pressure and strain can cause damage to the brain when its trying to heal from a concussion. *from what I understand from what my doctor told me

I was doing some light biking and incline treadmill walking, low intensity but still gets that blood moving. But I also lost a lot of weight when I came off, I dropped from 225 pounds to around 175 and it wasn't fat weight either. I just got skinny, but it may have been effected by the post concussion depression I seemed to have for several months afterwards as well.

Good luck to your buddy man! Just be smart (unlike I was at the time) and don't stop eating, just clean up that diet if he still can't lift and workout intensely.

Glad to hear he's doing better though.

He said the same thing. Any sort of exercise build pressure and then he feel sick again.

He is been resting heaps now, no physical activity at all, just light evening walk that's it.

I can feel it.he was really depressed but I wasn't sure what was making him so negative n depressed.

Now he is recovering better and looks less depressed as I talk to him thru it,
He is going to rest for one more month before start doing any physical activity!!!

Big fan as well. Junior was great for the sport, had class and just seemed like a great guy.

Just a theory but seems like it is possible. stevesmi is spot on:

this is a real problem and the medical community is years behind in studying it.
