Computers and video encoding????

How powerful of a fuckin computer does it take, the Earth simulator???

I have an AMD Athlon XP 2000
almost a gig of DDR ram
Fast ass hard drive 7200rpm 8mb cache(the fastest you can buy currently)
everythings tweaked out
plenty of airflow
Sony DVD burner(not that that matters for actual encoding)

Why does it take so long to encode movies??

What's a normal time to encode a SVCD??

I've got a xp2100... when doing divx encoding I get anywhere from 20-45 fps (realtime is ~30 fps) when using ripped vobs. Lots of math going on inside there..

I've found that there can be a wide variance in speed depending what software and what settings you use...

Could be the software, I'm useing Nero right now.

What's a good software to use thats EAZY AND SIMPLE?
