today I installed a newer version of winamp for music purposes, but if I open a movie the movie opens winamp how can I change it back so whenever I am opening a movie windows media player is the program that plays the movie?

go right click on a movie file, and select "open with"

A list of programs will open up. Find the media player. It will usually have the icon and it will be at the end of the list. Select it and mark "always use this program" at the end of the list. You will see the icon of the movie file change to a windows media player from winamp. Good luck.
