Computer problem..

All my virus software and M$ updates are well.. up to date.

Windows XP

I seem to get a lot of blah blah reference to xoxoxox(something about memory addresses)alerts programs not installing/uninstalling right, windows closing out.

Also sometimes my computer will just shut off, seems like it's more prone to do it when I have many programs running.

I've tried totally reinstalling windows and sometimes it doesn't make it past the without showing errors.

Do you think it could be bad ram (2 sticks,256mb each)??

It could be the cpu overheating, bad/mismatched/underclocked RAM or the motherboard's chipset. I've had boards that worked fine with one 512MB stick but would crash regularly with two 256MB sticks. Next time it happens reboot the box, go into the BIOS and find the cpu temperature. It will vary alot from P4 to Xeon to Athlon, etc but suffice to say it should be well under 140 degrees.
