Okay, if you don't have all the software to reinstall everything when you're done you definitely don't want to fdisk. That's going to erase EVERYTHING on the disk. Since this is an external DVD I'll assume it's USB (could be firewire but unlikely). Did the DVD burner come with a driver install disk or CD?

NO no...this one is the internal one. I never got the external one to fully install.

Do you know how to get to the Device Manager? Does Windows see the dvd drive now? In Device Manager it will say DVD/CD-ROM drives, then list the drives you have below that.

Rightclick on My Computer then select Manage this Computer.

target practice man. good shit there. my buddy told me that the old 5 1/4" floppy drives can take mega shots and still don't blast into pieces. dunno what he was shooting at them, but it was probably 7.62 or 5.56 ammo.
