whats the 'boot process'

help out!

I'm betting you have too many processes starting up when you boot up the computer. Go to Start/Run/type MS config/ then go to start up tab.

If you have more than 10 things starting up at boot then there is a problem. The only thing is you can't just uncheck it all because you need at least a couple a items to start up at boot for the computer to work right and then like want a couple more to start up at boot as well.

First thing, just update your virus scaner and then run it. If it finds no virus go to Start>Run then type in MS config. After you click on the startup tab, uncheck anything that you know that you don't need. If you really have no idea what you do and dont' need, go to www.download.com and download startup inspector. It's a small file and it will tell you what you do and dont' need. If that doesn't work, dowload and run adaware if you don't already have it. YOu can try also spybot search and destory, it's free as well. Then if that doesn't work you can download CCLEANER and run it.(it's also free) all of the download come from www.download.com. This shit happened to me about 3 months ago. After i got those programs and ran them and cleaned up my startup programs, my computer ran smooth. Hope some of my 2 cents help. Good luck.

Sorry had to run some stat crap.

You have a cd for your av program?

Throw that in the drive and restart your system.

If not then go under your advanced options and look for a scan on start up option.

i ran a norton ANTI VIRUS scan and no viruses found.

the machine is now fast as lightning...
but the cpu is still very high.

You got something eating up cycles....

Run Ad-aware and or Spybot to see if you have something going on.

Also try an online Virus scan from MCafee or Panda to make sure you're clean.

Dude, everybody, relax.

The "System Idle Process" is the catch-all process that uses whatever CPU cycles aren't otherwise being used.

Right now my SIP is using anywhere from 88-99% of my CPU resources.

There's nothing wrong with your computer.

It can also be used by a few trojans lumpy and if the CPU itself is running near 100% then its a good clue as to a virus.

Ok so if in the performance tab CPU Utilization is high, then yeah. But he hasn't said that.

in the performance tab, cpu utilization is NOT high.
karma goin around!

thanks everybody.

I used to tell people they had the System Idle Virus....run SETI client for a few weeks and it'll fix that right up.
