computer hardware question...

So i just got a new computer, and I bought a pretty standard middle of the road pc. Anyways, I wanted to put my old hard drive into it, but there isn't a bracket where I can mount the hard drive, while there is screw holes and such for a bracket to be put in place (same goes for the floppy). Anyways, is anyone aware if I could just go to compusa or a computer supply store and order a mount or bracket to screw into the tower to install the hard drive on, or do I need to contact my pc manufacturer?

If I understand right the hard drive is smaller that the bay you're gonna put it in? If so what's the situation with the old box? Did that have brackets? And yes a computer parts store should have hard drive mounting brackets.

I not sure I full got it so let me know if was on base.

If there's no obvious to screw it in to, then you need a bracket.

Most PC's these days will accept at least two hard drives.

Unless you plan on running around with the thing, you can technically just leave the drive sitting anywhere in the case or even hanging - have done it.

If there are at least screw holes in the metal, just put at least one screw into it so it is up against the side.

If you go to a RadioShack and explain the issue, they might have the rails for it.
Or you could look on Pricewatch.com and find a place that sells cases and then look around on there to see if they will see the various inner workings of the case.

yeah I thought about just resting it inside the tower, but I'd rather mount it somehow, just for my own peace of mind. There are screws in the actual tower to attach a bracket, not the screws for the hard drive itself.

No it's not smaller, there just isn't a bay in place. There is room and screwholes for a bracket to to be installed, just no bracket. I'm simply asking if, and where I can buy said bracket.

That's weird. Heck getting another case might be easier but a new computer should be readyfor another hard drive to be installed.

plug it in and put it where ever you want. I had a harddrive hanging from the power cable in my old pc for like 6 years, mostly because I used to work on pc's all day and didnt want to mess with my own. no big deal

Most hard drives are I think 3.5 and the larger bay you are wanting to install it into is for a 5.25 size case (cd/dvd) They make adapter brackets to do this and they cost like 10 bucks per adapter.

You can buy removable HD tray's for 13-15 bucks.

Or you can get a bracket (if there's room in the case) for 5-10 bucks.

Or just super glue the thing in the slot where the bracket would go.
