computer Gurus: need your help

hold on manny.. let me figure out what command prompts you can use.. both while booted in windows.. or with boot disk.. so you can try getting the directory of the d:.. and then maybe copying from d: to c: ( i think it's just dir d: and then copy d:\foldername c:\foldername..)

in properties of what? you mean if you're looking at the properties by right clicking the drive while in windows? or do you mean by looking at the properties by using a boot disk and command prompt?

right-click on the icon D. Thing is, I know I could bring my computer to the lab, some co-cowrokers are specialized in recovering data from kiddie porn fuckers but you see among the data I have there are some pics of me and my GF doing ya know.... lol

ha.. lmao..

try this.. go to a command prompt and type "dir d:" (but without the quotes) and see what happens..

well tells me the name of my D drive, and also that I have 24 MB free, (so still have 25 MB used).

but does it give you any names of directories or files.. or just how much space is used/free?

no it says something like can't find directory, so I cant see the files.

hmmmm... you be screwed... i think.. one last thing you could try doing.. is boot with a boot disk.. then try getting into the directory of the d: drive.. and if you can.. then copy the files to a cd (assuming you have a burner and a boot disk with the drivers to run it - if not.. then just try copying to c:)....

download a freeware trial version of some data recovery software for 98 and see if it can get the stuff back for ya.. check download.com --i think EasyRecoveryPro has a demo version without restrictions on it that you can use for a few days w-out having to register.

Norton System Works does a decent job of recovering files, if you can find a copy of it on Kazaa or something. Just install it on C, and try to recover from D.
