computer fuckers

my laptop took a shit,it worked last night ,i shut it off and tried to use it tonight and it wont boot up.

it takes me to a screen where i have to select regular start up,safe mode etc,and no matter what i pick it will look like its gonna start up then i get a quick flash of a blue screen and i made out some message about it being unbootable.

i got no idea how to fix this ,i am getting my cd's shipped up here and was going to try and format it but who knows if that will work or not.

any input?

If you were running windows put your windows disk in and as your computer is first starting up hit F12 or whatever key it is to get to the boot menu. Boot from the disk. If you can't fix it from there do a system restore. Good luck.

thanks guys,guess ill have to wait till my windows disk gets mailed to me,this is the worst place for this to happen,im 2500km or so from home,and relie on this fucking thing for everything from movies to internet,fuck.

That happened to me just recently and my hard drive was fucked. Hope you backed up your files.

hardware with laptops goes bad so often it is hard to diagnose without most people having it in front of them.

Try a repair installation like ponyfitness said, maybe some drivers got royally fucked up.

i don't think your hard drive is shot if you're getting to select how you want to start windows

but you might have to reinstall windows. did you have antivirus protection?

may have a corrupt file in C:\windows\system\
i had this happen to my desktop harddrive this summer, tried a bunch of things to try to repair it, nothing worked. I luckily got everything off of it by hooking it up as a secondary hard drive on another comp and put everything on an eternal hard drive.
if you can get a command prompt to come up type in "chkdsk" or "chkdsk /r"
hope a repair or restore works for ya

nothing is backed up and no other pc to hook it up too,ill be royally fucked if i cant boot from the xp cd when it gets here,but im willing to format if i must.

oh and i did have avg anti virus but had not run a scan in a bit,stupid i know

Also, take out the battery and just run off the wall jack and see if that works.

Inaccessible boot device on a blue screen? It will most likely need a scrub and a re-install of windows. Since it prompts for normal or safe mode, the drive is still functioning, and a windows file is most likely the culprit. If it makes you feel any better, it was probably not a virus. I have about 600 Public Internet PC's I run for a library district. We see that about once every 2 weeks on one of the 600. I have had hard drive failure be the issue one time in the last 2 years. 99% of the time we can re-image the machines with a ghost image we have and be on our way.

i dont remember dude,I was watching a movie and believe I shut it down properly but i was half asleep it could just pushed power.

im hoping i can boot from the windows xp cd,some said i might be able to,i dont wanna lose all my music and pictures thats for sure

I think its called the blue ghost. Its a virus that hides behind something else and gets in. I know someone who just had that happen to theirs. Had to bring it in and they had to completely wipe the system and reload all the crap back on it. The virus came from limewire

I have limewire on the computer here at work but we have a great virus protection system set up. I tried downloading something the other day and it told me the file may be corrupted. Do you wish to continue? Of course I said no.

The freebie things only detect the virusus anyhow...they do not remove them. In order for them to be removed you have to subscribe to the service. I just bought a new puter for at home and it came with 3 months of free service which I believe I will keep after the trial period.
