Anyone know of a program that can show me what's going on when I am online?

Let me explain........When I log on to the internet (DSL), IE opens to the home page.......but then another window pops up....(my computer/C:)....I can close IE, and then click on my DSL connection and still see bytes being transfered. I have also closed the DSL connection and re-dialed, just to have my c: info pop up again. Am I being hacked? Thanks for the info.

you are not being hacked. Get a firewall program such as Zone Alarm and it will tell you whats happening as far as the internet connection. I wouldn't worry about the extra byte transfers, its nothing and happens often with my cable modem as well. I've investigated it before only to find its just random packets from the net.

I doubt that you are being hacked. I use Zone Labs, ZoneAlarm. It is free and acts like a firewall. You can set it up to only allow certain programs to access the Internet, and you can see which programs are sending and receiving packets. It also blocks certain packets from your PC. It also has an option to shut off all network traffic. I highly recommend it, especially with a cable modem or DSL connection.

Firewalls do not show you whats going on, in fact most firewalls, unless fully locked down allow a frightening amount of traffic in and out.

Get etherpeek or some other application that displays network traffic. Displaying traffic is MUCH different than blocking it.

Wow, now there is a quick, cheap $1295 fix. I got a copy of this from a guy in my CCNA class. The book it comes with is like a freaking dictionary. It is quite awesome and powerful, but who has the time. I have never even installed it.

Have you used it before, and just how easy is it to decipher the data it collects?

I assume you are using windows? If you were using linux, you could just use tcpdump or sniffit or probably 10 other free tools.

I use it all the time. It's a great forensic tool, and good for capturing AIM/AOL/Yahoo sessions.

I doubt jeep has linux, no linux users would think to post questions here.... even though the majority of linux users are sheep.
