Computer clock slow

Computer gurus.

The clock on my computer falls behind in keeping proper time.

And ideas as to why?

:rainbow: ;)

Mine does that when I leave it on for long periods of time, but if I turn it off and back on, the clock resets to the correct time. I would have thought that it would keep the correct time as long as it was on.

There are utilities that can set the clock on your system. I use one called Atomic Clock Sync. A google search will turn up multiple download sites for that one.

The battery on the motherboard is going dead. Get a new one. Like $5.

what he said.

you could also get into the BIOS settings and make sure it's set to the proper time and date. resetting the BIOS could help as well.

this is easier than installing a new battery. we'd hate for you to break a nail or something ;)

Mine did that a few months ago. I replaced the battery and it kept doing it. Now it has stopped. It might be from doing some kind of "upgrades" Microsoft or something. I forget exactly what I did, but it definately was`nt replacing the battery that fixed it.

Mr. Db - I will try that thanks.

Razor, Crack, Lumberg, TC2 - It's a fairly new computer - battery dead so soon?

Gonelifting - I just did all my window updatess.

Delinquent - Yes - but the program needs to be renewed.

Lumberg - NAUGHT BOY - you should see the thing I do with my hands. :) I helped build our wireless network at the office because none of the men could come to the rescue.

So ugh - where does this battery go?!

More likely an app that's stealing cycles -- if I run Trillian, my clock falls behind. The hardware clock is only consulted when you boot up, so if your OS doesn't keep up with the real world, the indicated time will be off. As you suspected, it's not likely to be the battery this soon.

WinXP has a built-in time sync; I assume you're not running XP, therefore. As it uses a microsoft.com time server, I say screw THAT noise. I've firewalled the Microsoft time server at home, and use a third party app instead. ("Haa-Ha! Digger runs XP!" Yeah, one computer out of six -- gotta have something to play Unreal Tournament on.)
