You seem to get frustrated when a story is posted about a drunk driver killing someone, and I express anger at drunk drivers.

Why.

The driver was drunk, he hurt someone. That makes me angry.

If someone posted a guy fell asleep at the wheel and ran into someone else, I would also be quite angry, though I still feel the drunk is more culpable and 'sinful' than the guy who was tired.

If someone posted about a friend getting killed by a driver on coke, I would be equally disgusted....

However, all we have seen our threads about lives being ruined becuase of drunk drivers.

Intoxicated drivers are a serious problem and should be dealt with extremely harshly.

Think your logic is poor.

Let me reiterate for you.

On every post where a drunk driver has ruined lives, I have posted about my disgust for drunk drivers. See the connection?

People should realize that when they drive on public roads they are putting their lives in the hands of morons/assholes/fools etc etc.

It's actually shocking how many people have or do drive drunk. Thing is noone seems to want to come up with a solutions to the problem. I saw a service advertised in a bar washroom that drives you home, and your car for just a little more than what a cab would charge. Now that's a good idea!

OK.

Perhaps than you should not have been the target of my frustration. Also, granted, cases of drunk driver induced fatalities are far more common in the stories posted here than the other alternatives. I was reading things that were not there... my bad.

I will just go grab my picket sign and park outside of a police station the next time a truck driver falls asleep at the wheel and is treated with kid gloves, while a drunk 16 year old gets sentenced to 20 years behind bars.

BTW, you misread my post, as well. I do not want less punishment for drunk drivers. I want more for otherwise irresponsible drivers who cause injury. I also want them to be punished for the appropriate crime.

This may be more a matter of semantics more than anything, but the legal system has a tendency to vilify the substance in question, instead of the action. If i get all fucked up and drive into a tree, I get charged with drunk driving, not running into the tree. That makes little or no sense to me.

Were the world like it should be (according to puc). We would charge people with reckless driving when they are swerving all over the road. We would raise the feasible punishment for this crime. We would use being under the influence of alcohol as incriminating evidence of that crime. In other words, punish the action instead of the motivation. Use the motivation as evidence.

Maybe this is more semantics than anything, because already you are not going to be arrested for simply driving drunk. You need to do something to call attention to your driving (swerve, hit a tree) or you will not get tested in the first place. SO perhaps, i am just being idealistic.
