my uncle was just diagnised with HIV and he is on the treatment with combivir
the docotrs have prescribed him combivir
i wanted to know more about the medicine and side effects if any

Actually, its brand name Zidovudine (AZT), a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. Do a google search on AZT or check medscape drug info, it will tell you everything you need to know.
I know it causes pancreatitis, and some blood (white) problems, as well as peripheral neuropathy.

makes you want to just go with the HIV huh? yeah you might slow down the HIV but youll die from other crap falling out your ass. lol. i like listening to the end of drug commercials. may cause anal leakage, heart murmer, blindness, and blood running from your tear-ducts but you wont have to worry about those pesky hemoroids.

Well, anti retrovirals arent the nicest of drugs, but HIV is a very serious virus, contrary to some movements today that say to beat it "naturally" (dumber than shit).
You dont want it progressing to the point where your immune system and nerves are fucked (HIV attacks WBCs and dendritic cells).

You can get scared off any drug if you read all the possible side effects - even aspirin! Truth is, many people take Combivir (which contains both AZT and 3TC) with few or no side effects. Others can't tolerate it, and have to switch to a different drug.

The magic of combivir is that the body builds up resistance to 3TC in about 16 weeks on avg (3TC has very few side effects, that why side effects are only talked about with AZT.) When a human host becomes resistance to 3TC the body is more able to kill HIV with the help of AZT than with AZT alone. The person taking Combivir still needs to take at least one other anti-retro viral drug such as Viread or Sustiva to make a complete drug combo. Thanks! Alan Chiras.
