Cold weather has always been a trigger for my asthma, but I don't think I've done anything other than showshoeing or snowboarding cardio wise since I got on Advair. Once I get my hernia surgery out of the way I'll give it a shot. Should be colder than fugg by then, but whatever. I'm running a half marathon this spring and need to get in shape.

It's generally less humid in cooler/cold weather (obviously depending). The evap of sweat is better in low humidity, with higher humidity your body tries to adjust naturally by fatiguing your muscles down to slow your sweating + body temp

plus with cooler temp you sweat less and ration water longer
 
You're naturally inclined to move faster in cooler weather to keep your body temp up. That harsh biting cold air hacks at the lungs after a while though.

+1, I can't take the fuggin' wind in my face anymore, my eyes start pouring tears and my sinuses shut down, then I get a headache. Everything I put over my face fogs my shades. If I take off my glasses the sun gives me a headache. I can't win.

I hate the winter. After 44 years of this shit, ice, snow, cold weather and chapped skin are utterly overrated.
 
I can do a 5k race in about 2-3 minutes in cold dry weather than I can in hot humid.

Body temp to me is one of the key fatigue factors. My wife is just he opposite. She loves to run in the heat / hates the cold.

Another reason I don't care much for treadmills either, cardio rooms are always a bit too warm.
 
There was a study done on marathon runners and it concluded that 41 degrees is the optimal temp for sustained running.

yeah.. I once had it explained like this, if your toes are not frost bitten at the start of a marathon, the heat is going to kill you at the end.

Okay, now I'm probably going to end up going into more detail than anyone is really interested in ... but I'm actually one of those rare women who is not "freezing" all the time. I keep my house quite cool in the winter and generally am able to tolerate the cold well (hell, I wear shorts outside until the temperature is below 55), except for the damned wind in my face!!! I've got light sensitive eyes so I have to wear sunglasses and I have been unable to figure out how to cover the exposed parts of my face without ending up with foggy glasses :mad:
